Need help with d15b6 HF mini-me
ok i have a few questions....i have a 89 crx HF with the d15b6 engine and i just bought a d16z6 head. now what exactly do i need to finish it to have all the parts needed? I'm new to understanding Honda numbers but here are the questions.
What ecu do i need?
Do i need to replace my Distributor?
What head gasket is better to use?
And what can i do to the heads before i install them to give me more power?
I have already installed the dx trans but now i just need a confirmed list of the other parts that i need for my engine, All the write ups I've read none of them have said anything about the d15b6.
Thanks to anyone who will help me with this.

you can use your same dizzy and ecu. but if it was vtec you would have to get a obd0 vtec ecu, or else you would get a check engine. you could run a vtec motor without a vtec ecu, but you wouldn't hit vtec. just use the haed gasket that cam with the head, unless its been used get a new one, cause if you dont, you'll just blow the head glasket. you can replace the cam in the head and maybe get new valve springs and everything else. or i would just get a vtec haed and slap it on the block you got
this will not work. you only have 2 relief cuts on the top of your pistons and you need 4. I am sorry to say that this was a waste of money on your part buying the z6 head you can change your pistons or buy a b2 block. also you can run a pm6 ecu and a rpm activated switch. you can use a program like turbo edit to create you fuel maps.

Agreed. Unlike Honda's other 8 valve motor (the D15B8), the D15B6 does NOT have valve reliefs for a 16 valve head. It would be FAR cheaper and easier to just get a whole D16Z6 to drop in there. And this is seriously what I would recommend. So just put that head in the classifieds and look for another motor. Also, rather than dealing with the PM6 ECU, just go OBDI and use the P28 ECU that this motor was meant to run.
As for using a B2 bottom end, this is possible as well. But you will end up with less displacement (but perhaps a more rev-worthy motor). It will also likely be cheaper just to get a whole D16Z6 longblock than to have to get the B2 block (which, by itself is cheap) AND all the gaskets, etc to put it toether.
Oh, and while you're at it, ditch that HF transmission.
