Entry-Level Suspension Suggestions?

Default Entry-Level Suspension Suggestions?

I'm sure that I'm going to be getting a lot of heat for this, but here goes...

99 Honda Civic DX 4dr
D16Y7 Engine

I'm going to have some extra income this summer and would like to stiffen the ride of my car (in an effort to make the car more sticky).

My budget is sub-$800.

I have already been recommended...

Rear Anti-Sway bar
Polyurethane bushings
Tokico 5-way

Any thoughts?

Only input I have is that I got one of those cheap cheesey ebay 5 piece strut bar/subframe connector kits and I was acually very surprised at how much difference it made. It was like 75 bucks, some no name brand....

If I'm not wrong, doesn't the EX 4dr come with sway bars on it stock? I can remenber for sure....

I'll have to check. I suppose I was looking for something mo stiffer than stock?

I got NEUSPEED sport springs and KYB AGX (ajustable) shocks for 450 total. Add an ITR sway bar (rear) and a sub frame brace from here (used) and you've got 800 bucks worth of stuff that you'll be happy with.

I have Tokico Illumina shocks (I'm assuming that's what someone suggested to you, unless Tokico has another 5-way shock). I can vouch for these, they are VERY good.

Sub $800?

I would recommend shocks, rear sway bar (with poly bushings), h-brace, and tires (that is only if you have rims already...not just steelies).

Stick with an OEM sway bar. I tend to find from research that 22MM+ ones are a bit too aggressive for a DD or non-track/autox car.

Oh and some decent tires. Your car won't stay on the ground around corners if your tires break loose.

when lowering, at what point will I need a camber kit? How much drop? Just wondering because thats about my budget for suspension as well! I already have 17''rims and tires though! Ditching them for 15's maybe 16's before the suspension even gets touched!

I'd say <u>starting</u> (keyword here) at around 2". The Eibach Pro-Kit is quite popular and so far from what I've read, a camber kit is not necessary. So my guess is just a little up from that, you'd have to start worrying about adjusting camber.

camber kit is needed when you go with coilovers. Lowering springs that drop the car less than 2" is not going to need a camber kit to make it run. You should end up with 3.5 degrees in front tho, but it will handle great.

Worst case comes, you can get washers to correct the camber in the back.

Remember to have you car aligned after changing the suspension, so take that into account in your budget.
