Default STUCK VALVES? WTF 2nd head in a week!!!

i bought a 93 del sol, 1.5, sat for 4 yrs, needed fuel pump, so changed that, car fired up no problem, ran new plugs/wires/oil/filter, ran it for 2 hrs, everything checked out fine, Everything worked, heat gauge 45% up .. next morning go to start it and nothin, motor just spins.. take off valve cover after checkin the basic steps and the rockers are movin like crazy, 4 stuck valves, Then... i buy a used head, get it sent out, cleaned, resurfaced, install, with new gaskets, waterpump, belts etc.. torque head to proper specs, starts fine, runs great, some steam comes out of exhaust.. think nothin of it..run it for 2 hrs.. shut it off. next morning same thing.. wont start.. pop valve cover, 6 stucks intake valves!! WTF.. i give up. what seems to be the problem

How exactly are you checking to see if their stuck?

Although it would be a good idea to get that old gas out, that shouldnt cause the issiue you are having. I am also wondering how you are checking to see they are "stuck". is the valve fully compressed and not coming back up? if so that is an interference motor, and you probably dented the **** out of the piston, and bent the valve...

The gas is actually fresh gas. drained old stuff when i started it first time, took valve cover off and the rocker thing moves but the valve is stuck and theres no pressure on the valve from the spring, What can cause valves to get stuck, and oil IS gettin pumped up to the head.?? im so lost? any other factors to consider? crank shaft,? ignition timing? please help

is the valve stuck open or stuck closed?

if they are stuck open, you have bent valves. you need to double check the way you are setting cam timing on the motor.

the intake ones are stuck.. theyre down, stuck towards the cylinder, we had to pry them up.. why would this happen? especially after the head was sent out and checked by a reputable machine shop... i know the head was used... but it was resurfaced. cam timing? all timing marks were dead on. any other suggestions. and oil was getting into the head for those who think they seized due to friction.

valves after sitting may of become rusty, when you started it the rust scored the valve guides, or may have cause them to shift loose. just a thought.

But it was two separate heads.

As far as I can tell, you just had bad luck. If it was two entirely separate heads with no parts in common, there's nothing that could link their failure.

The valves were adjusted to spec right?

sounds like you did the same step WRONG on 2 different heads. sounds like you set the timing wrong and you bent valves . they are bent open because of piston to valve contact , bent them and now they wont close......

I agree, it sounds like the cam timing was off.

How would he not notice the mutilated pistons after removing the first head if there really was piston-to-valve contact?

just cuz the valves hit the piston doesnt mean that the piston is necessarily gonna get damaged...when i bent the valves on my head the pistons looked spotless when i took the head off...it all has to do with how and when the contact occured...

Have you even checked your compression to make sure that's your problem

6 out of 10 times the pistons wil lbe just fine . all it needs to do is tap one ever so slightly to bend a valve.
