temperature gauge increases randomly
i have a 99 dc2 with a aluminuim radiator and spoon rad. cap... I noticed my temp gauge increase to about 3 quarters of the temp gauge for a short period of time and then it goes back down to its normal temp. This only happens once in a while, but i dont want it leading to something worse. Is there anyone that may know my problem.
A friend of mines car would do that all the time. The gauge would read about 3/4 up at random times and then drop right down to normal. We finally decided it was the gauge after checking and replacing everything cooling related.

I'd definitely replace it if you haven't. It might be opening too late. Even if it's not the problem you won't be out much money replacing it.

Thermostat first. Maybe it's opening late, or is dirty or stuck. It's easy and cheap.
I once found a screw holding mine open (previous owner, maybe on purpose). The car would stay in rich-warm up mode for an hour.
Other than that, I would check for air in the system.

Yeah, I meant the thermostat first since it's a cheap part. Air in the system is also a likely culprit.
