I tryed the local machine shops, suppy houses and noone has a block of aluminum, I need like a 6" L x 6" W and 3" H block, Any ideas where I can get one? Thanks guys!!!!

Thanks guys!! Does it sound right to pay 200 bucks for a little block of aluminum? Thats how much all the places are charging that you's posted, I was on earl's website and they were using a mason's chisel and a block of aluminum to cut braided stainless steel hose. Thought it would be intresting to cut hose like that, I already have a chisel but no aluminum, Would lead work? Again thanks guys!

tons of weird cutoffs will come up. i got a piece for a velocity stack setup i'm making (baseplate of a manifold), that would be about 150 from a supplier, for 19 dollars plus 12 shipping.

The other place to get it cheap - bigger machine shops. They normally sell their scrap for a fraction of the virgin metal cost, and if you get the right place, they'll sell (or give) it to you for what they'd otherwise get for it.

A place I did some work for did lots of die plates, so I have more odd-sized 1/8" plates of aluminum and magnesium than I know what to do with.

Oh no! Im using to it lay the hose on to cut it with a chisel, Since the aluminum is soft it will allow the chisel to cut completely thru the hose, Also its the cleanest cut I had ever seen, NO tape needed!

That would have saved me a lot of time, since I just normally use my dremel.

 

That is good info I just used an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel.
