Default My baby is sick :-(

My poor Prelude is sick. The fan isn't working and it is consequently overheating. It goes on the odd time - perhaps a loose connection? Also, when ideling, the revs bounce up and down between 800 and 2000 rpm. It sometimes stops and idles normally after a bit of driving but sometimes persists for over 30 mins driving. Is this perhaps related to the fan problem?

Anyone any ideas? I'd perfer to give it a shot myself than bring it to a garage.

I'm not sure if it's why yours is doing it, but you might check your water levels and make sure you fill and bleed the system. I have been told that on crx's, they will do that with their idle when there is air in the system... About the fan, other than checking the connection and wires, I'm not sure.

Try unplugging vacuum hoses one at a time. If unplugging one of them makes no difference, I think you've found the culprit.

And do do the coolant thing also.

Yup, the fuses are ok - thats no the problem. sorry for having to ask - I'm no mechanic (yet) but what are the vacuum hoses? And for the coolant do I just have a look in the radiator or is there a reservoir?

Thanks for the help - I really need it!

Ok, the reservoir beside the radiator is empty. Shall I just fill it up with water, or do I have to use a special liquid?

I have put 4 litres in the radiator and reservoir (2l coolant, 2l water). There is air at the top of the radiator(ie. its not totally full) and the reservoir is full. Is this OK? Will the coolant be sucked up to fill the radiator?

Shall I just drive it around and keep en eye on the reservoir level?

Does anyone know how much coolant&water it needs? Its a 2.2vtec.
