Default ****Looking to setup audio system in 92 hatch****

Hey

Currently looking to get a new cd deck (current one is 35x4 watts and non ipod compatible) and some sort of speaker arangement going.

Needs for project: Around 300 total budget for deck and front speakers. the rest will come later. I can do the wiring myself to save cost.

Deck : Needs to be ipod compatible and would prefer a deck where I can change it from the ipod since I change songs a lot BUT not a must. BUT it must be able to charge ipod from the deck.

Speakers: Need to be nice ones that will keep me satisfied til I can get my subs wired up.

I noticed there are no rear speakers or a place to put them as far as the cover is concerned (maybe a metal bracket underneath)? Is there anything I can do about that or is just throwing in nice front speakers and a set of subs the best option? I'm a newbie in the audio department so any and all advice is greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance!

since i recently did this to my hatch here is what i recommend.

get any deck with ipod capability - costs ~ 200 bucks (brands - pioneer, alpine, kenwood, jvc)
ipod adapter for HU ~ 50 bucks
speakers ~ front 6.5" rears ~ 5.25" price varys 40-100 a pair.

Regarding rear speakers u will need rear speaker covers panels for the EG because the sound will drown out ~ 80 bucks (ebay only since honda discontinued it)

For rear speaker brackets I can sell u mine for 20 bucks.

so my set up is pioneer HU - P6800MP with ipod adapter connected to 2 x 6.5" infiniti references and rear 4 x 5.25" clarions with 750W amp to one 10" shallow Kicker sub.

or if you dont get rear speaker you can put all that money towards your front speakers where it really matters.

there's a sony radio we have at my job(circuit city) which comes with a built in ipod interface cable. that radio runs about 170-180., then u can get urself a pair of eclipse 6.5" speakers for the front. i just installed that setup along with a kicker 200.2 amp and an mtx subenclosure and it sounds great. i did it in a 94 cx hatch

buy an older alpine with ai-net. peripheral electronics makes a cable that allows you to change songs from the ipod and charges it with no electrical noise, i believe its $30. i think they make this same type of cable for other headunits as well, even oem if it has a cd changer port.

i wouldnt mess with the rear speakers, oem is going to be fine. just get a decent set of components up front and amp them down the line. i would suggest alpine type r components since you can get them for around $140 and they sound pretty decent.

the headuit i have is an alpine 7892 and im using the peripheral electronics cable and love it.

If you're really cheap. Try circuitcity's ebay store. I got my Eclipse CD1000, and two pairs of their SE8355(one pair was stolen) for under $100 and I'm happy with them in my 92 hatch. Retail for the three would have been $300, and my employee discount would have only saved me 40%. If it doesn't work you can still send it back for your money(minus shipping costs).

I'm pretty sure you can find some good iPod controlable decks and component speakers for under your budget on there. You just might have to get your cage, harnesses, iPod cables, etc from a store. Most of the stuff works, just read the description and make sure it says it works and has the stuff you need since I noticed some of their component speaker auctions are missing tweeters or crossovers.

Save up some more money so you can do it right the first time. For now, just get a deck.
