a few days back, my brother was driving my car and the cop pulled him over for having a loud exhaust. i was wondering if theres even a law against that in illinois. does anyone know?

Something that has been long debated!
Basically(coming from my dad a 30yr Veteran cop) if you happen to annoy a cop, you'll get a ticket. Why mess with us and not the Harleys? More cops own Harleys.
You'll get a cop having a bad day that wants to mess with someone, and he'll write you!

thats funny alot of the hoffman cops are pretty nice when it comes to the modified cars out there its schaumburg you have to worry about. but i do agree with clint on this my dad is also a 27 year veteran cop and alot of the "new breed" cops are getting to be the ones that hastle everybody about the loud exhaust bullshit it gets quite old after a while.

That's pretty funny...I do know that where I live they have like a "city sound ordinance" that's geared towards loud stereos mainly. I could see a seriously loud exhaust getting into the mix though. Did they actually give your brother a ticket? Or just a warning? I actually got pulled over for my stereo back in high school when I was in my loud stereo phase, and they just gave me a warning and let me be on my way.

 

when I lived in Wisconsin and was pulled over, they told me that anything other stock is illegal. When I moved to Minnesota and was pulled over for going 10 over the limit the cop didnt even mention anthing about my exhaust. So I guess it depends on the state and the mood of the cop.

I got pulled over once for speeding...cop followed me 2 miles before he pulled me over. Wrote me for 10 over, improper headlight marker bulb, AND exhaust. The only thing is, if they do a db reading on you and it is over I want to say 93db? then you will get a ticket. If they just say it's too loud - take it to court and get it thrown out. I'm not sure about where you live, but that's what I did here in WA.

What about all the trucks and motorcycles that have exhaust? Cops don't do anything to them....

 

i got pulled over in naperville for having a loud exhaust but the cop just gave me a warning. i guess its up to the cops discretion to give you a ticket!!!

 

yah im in cali...so yah cops #1 hard ons r imports..lol...and i have a 2.5 full cat with n1 muffler.....cop pulled me over for 5 over limit..and gave me a fix it ticket...he said he wouldnt of pulled me over but he seen my shiny muffler....so had to go to meinke....to get a stock muffler....and get it inspected by a chick cop... 120 bucks for stock muffler plus install...sucks passed inspection...so i got that sleeper look...i can haul ***...and they wont see my exhaust...

 

i was planning to get my stock muffler and my magnaflo bolted from axle back so i can interchange between the 2. so when that sht happens to me i wont have to pay 120 liek teh guy above to pass teh inspection.

 

im going to get a black vibrant one instead..very good flow and looks stock..

 

yea but how do those vibrant exhausts sound? any1 know?

Here in the netherlands they pulled me over at one time, and they took my car for three days..Now I have a to pay 220 euros, but I choose to tell my story to the judge, because in my opinion,much faults were made..When they have a good day, they don't even look at you and when they have a bad day, they pick you immediattely out of the traffic..
