Default Dynamat extreme VS offbrand

im looking to sound deaden my trunk, doors and floor.

what are your thoughts on using dynamat extreme vs offbrand? IE: does the offbrand work as well?

Also if the offbrand stuff is good, what are some brands that are good to use? and where can you get them (internet links please )

I've used both Raammat and Damplifier and both are great deadeners. Damplifiers uses a higher quality butyl that is less sticky and less messy to work with. Also it's adhesive allows you to unpeel it if you put it in the wrong spot, since it grows stronger over time. Raammat is still great and good bang for the buck. Both companies have great customer service.

it really depends, i have a 1998 passat, i used about 50 sq ft in the trunk/rear deck/trunk lid and about 16 sq ft. in each of my doors. covered em up pretty well, some places have double layers i couldve gotten away with less if i wanted single layer. you should look into overkill from secondskinaudio (damplifier) or ensolite from raamaudio. they work well in your doors/floor to get rid of road noise if thats part of your goal. rick provided me with some ensolite for free, enough to have a layer of each in my two front doors and the difference was actually noticeable. i'm sure overkill would have the same affect.

yeah my main reasoning for doing this is to keep the road noise down, my trunk doesnt rattle very much (running 1 12" alpine type x powered by an MA audio 1600W RMS amp)

i was planning on using dynamat extreme in the trunk/ trunk lid/ rear deck area.

i was looking on some of the different websites and they have the tar paper (dynamat extreme) and other thicker things.

which would be better for under my carpet?

under your carpet i'd go with a layer of deadener and some overkill/ensolite (as they are thin, and closed cell), theyre good for airborne noise. i'd stay away from dynamat xtreme unless you can get it for the same price as raammat or damplifier. its not tar, all 3 are butyl.

road noise is a different frequency then what rattling is... using dynamat and the like are just adding weight to panels to keep them from vibrating and creating rattles... i would seriously look into edead teklite from elemental designs... its a foam layer that helps cancel out road noise... i noticed the best place to put deadener to kill road noise in my car was along the fender walls

if you're referring to dynamat xtreme, don't get it. its a ripoff for so little deadener.

shipping is what ends up biting you with all these mat products. but another plus to elemental designs, their customer service is great and they'll take care of you if you order over the phone.

^ From what I've read here and heard at the ccity roadshop I work at, certain brands may need more layers to dampen as much sound. In the end, even multiple layers of the other stuff is usually cheaper unless you can get a good discount on it, or see deals on ebay.

im saying if price wasnt a factor, if all brands were the exact same price, would Dynamat Extreme come out on top?
