Default Removing head bolts

How do you remove the head bolts? I have the Helms, and I understand what order to remove them in.

Are head bolts 14mm? I am turning with all of my might and they won't budge.

Thanks for the help.

Try a breaker bar with a cheater pipe. I use a 18in with a 2-3 ft pipe. The h22 head bolts were the worst I have dealt with.

yeah, the head bolts are a bitch. Be sure to have a long breaker bar to make it easier.
When i was breaking down my old motor, all i had was a 6" craftsman ratchet to say the least i was sweating, pissed off, and tired...but i eventually got them all off.

Since the whole engine is being rebuilt, I don't care if I damage something. I tried using my Dewalt Electric impact that has 345lbs. of torque. Those damn head bolts didn't budge. I am demoralized now.

I guess i will try again later.

I am getting a Husky 3 ft. torque wrench from Home Depot tomorrow. You can use it, xiaogou.

How much tq. does Honda put those bastard bolts in with anyhow?

Long breaker bar (2-4') plus 1/2" tools I guarantee will work

are the head bolts 12sided?
For some reason i recall my H22A4's headbolts to be a 12sided bolt, i remeber going out to buy a special socket for it too, i'm not too sure about H22A1 though. Yes, the bolt is rediculously tight the first time you take it off, then the next few times i found it easier. Maybe the first time doing stuff is always hard. Just remeber to do it in sequence like the manual shows you so you don't end up warping the head. 2step torque

....dont use your torque wrench to loosen bolts.....it will throw it out of calibration.

bahahaha

and some nasty bruised in your palms, no?

the worst bolts I've ever dealt with we definitely the axle nuts when I bought my motor swap, it came as a suspension drop, and with the axle bolts having sat for over 1 year, and slightly rusty for some reason (the engine wasn't).....we had two 6 foot peices of re-bar prying against the subframe to hold the thing down, and my dad (think popeye, he eats his spinach) with a 5 foot pipe on a breaker bar with 3/4" sockets and it still took a few "1,2, 3 pull" s to get the damn things off....

Yeah and never ever use a tq wrench for loosening....

Head bolts are 6 point, you should ALWAYS use a 6pt socket on them, a 12pt would strip them very easily.

for my h23 i turned the motor on its side and sat on it while i pushed down (counterclockwise) on a 22" breaker bar. make sure you use deep sockets too. i started off using normal sockets with an extension and i thought i broke the bolt loose but i just ended up twisting the extension into two pieces.

Damn i fricken curious myself now. heh not even relevant to this topic anymore, forget i brought it up

Damn. I have an impact socket set. The 14mm socket fits in the hole but is too thick to fit around the head bolt

Guess I will have to get a regular socket set

use your jack handle with a 1/2 drive and a 14mm socket. they will come off with ease then, but maybe I am just a strong ************
