Default d16y8 head on d16z6 block

Hi All,
I know this has been discussed before, i searched on the topic - but i've found different information/"facts" regarding the y8 head on the z6 block. I'm not doing this mod as an attempt to gain hp or be different...i simply bought a 94 civic ex that snapped a timing belt and bent some valves - so i bought a head that i thought would be a simple bolt on. Oops. And now it looks like the kid won't buy it back from me, so rather than lose the $ on it i'd like to just get it to work.

So my questions are:
1. Does the y8 vtec solenoid have the same connection/control as the z6? (I don't have the y8 solenoid yet, and this is what tipped me off that this head is different at all since my z6 mount was a different shape than the y8 one)

2. Rumor has it that the y8 timing is different than the z6 timing. Do i need to get an adjustable cam gear to offset this issue? If so, where do i need to set the cam gear to get 0 timing?

3. Would my stock ecm have any problems running this head (aside from the possible timing issue already asked about)

4. Rumor has it i use all z6 head bolts except for 1 of them. Is this obvious once i start bolting the head on, or does someone know offhand which bolt it is?

5. Does my z6 distributor bolt up to the y8 head without any issues? Rumor was i needed to mod this or shave that to make it work properly.

Thanks for your help. Working on this car brings back some memories of my h22a1 95 prelude i had a looong time ago. I still miss that interior...ah well.

thanks for your help.

1. i know the z6 vtec sol won't bolt to the y8 head...i was referring to the electrical connection.

2. so using the z6 cam gear will make timing not an issue. Thats good news, does that just mean the only difference in timing is due to the larger y8 cam gear?

any reason i couldn't just use the z6 cam and stock cam gear in the y8 head and then not need to worry about chainging the timing?

You're wrong. Z6 camshaft does fit a Y8 head. Just use a Z6 cam gear and it should work.[

You bolted a z6 dizzy to a y8 head without modifications? That's news to me.
