Default oMy motor is overheating! .what is going on? PLEASE HELP

Ok this is what is happening.
* I replaced my thermostat and that fixed it from overheating for about 2 days.

*then, today on my way home from town I was goin up and down from about 110-140
ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEAR A SOUND LIKE A RUNNING TAP UNDER MY HOOD...swooooooooooshhhhhhh

so I pulled over and let it cool down and I filled it with some rad fluid. then i drove the rest of the way home at 90 kms and was okay, BUT if i drove any faster than 90 it started to overheat and make the swoooossshhhhh noise.

WHATS HAPPENING?? WHATS WRONG WITH MY CAR?

please reply:
Travis

Did you check your hoses and check for any leaks?

YOu might have blown a headgasket/warped the head from overheating, is any white smoke coming out from the end of your exhuast?

Generally speaking if you don't have any white smoke comming from the exhaust you probably don't have a blown head gasket. Now it could be a very small head gasket problem not letting white smoke be generated yet so check your oil/coolant to see if they seem creamy or milky. If you do you have a head gasket problem that's only going to get worse. If you have not bled the coolant system properly then yes it could cause your problems and that could be what the whoosh sound you hear is....because if there is air running through the system the bubble could be trapped and causing the overheating. A more simplistic way to treat this would be (while the engine is cooled off) to remove the radiator cap.....while the engine is running and you have the heater on full blast on full heat setting...squeeze the top radiator hose to let coolant go into it easier..in essence you are "burping" the system... you can add coolant as necessary. Now the only reason it should even need bled/burped is if you changed/flushed the radiator sometime in the recent past of course. Good luck to you though.

^^^^ ok , I cant really tell if any white smoke is coming out since its still kinda cold and the weather makes exhaust look white..would the white smoke be very noticeable?

I changed the thermostat the other day and that is why I need to bleed it, ALOT of fluid puked out while i did that , I dont think its bled properly. I am going to go outside and "burp" the system

is there any way I can tell if i blew a head gasket? The heater has LOTS of heat, I cant really tell if white smoke is coming out... any other ideas????

You could do a compression/leakdown test...a leakdown would tell you if you have any weak points on the motor itself...another thing is you could smell the white smoke that's comming out of the exhaust. Now by all means please don't shove your face in the outlet but you can use your hands to waft some of it up to your nose and see if it has that "burning" coolant smell. It would be a really "sweet" smell...not the normal carbon monoxide/burning fuel smell.

1. where and how much is a compression test

2. what the hell is a leakdown test

3. going outside to waft some exhaust...and to see if coolant needs bled

its all fixed up now, it was the coolant, had air in the lines (not good) as for the swoooosh noise i was hearing it was something off of the throttle body. Theres a spot on the top where a bolt or something went and the bolt was missing for some reason, so what I did was find a bolt almost the right size, wrapped it in electrical tape and jammed it in there. As for right now the car runs/idles PERFECT. I am going to the junk yard to find the bolt that flew out of my t/b (i think its an idle adjustment screw but could be wrong)
