Default A few Question regarding Exhausts

I have been a member here for quite some time and this forum has helped me to feel more comfortable around my vehicle.

I have a few questions to ask...

I recently did an lsvtec swap composing of ls bottom end with ctr pistons and crower stage 3 cams on a b16 head into my 2000 em1 and so far, it is running great. I however have ran into a problem. The stock exhaust I have doesn't seem to be sounding as good as it did when my b16 was in it. Would 2.5 inch piping from the cat back sound better and create better flow?

I was also wondering if a catback system is worth the 600-700 dollars or will buying 2.5 inch piping and a quality muffler be more bang for the buck?

Any comments are appreciated!

Thanks,
B

When I bought the car, it had the stock 2 inch piping with a fart can on it. The can is still on along with the piping.

Recently however somewhere in my exhaust is rattling and at about 4000 rpms and when idling.

This leads me to think that new piping would be in order along with removing the heatshields underneath the car.

What do ya think?

Yeah I have been thinking running a 2.5. Most shops use mandrel bending correct?

^^ yeah and check all of your hangers. An ES muffler would be nice too. I bought my muffler for 110 and paid about 250 for new pipes, cat and resonator. So for 400 you can get a complete set up with the muffler of your choice.

im not sure, i think most use crush bent.

ask your local shops what they charge and if they can do mandrel bent.

mandrel will be more expensive of course.

i dont have any experience with exausts, i only hae the one on my car.

a no name brand.

hp racing 4-2-1 header, 2.5 mandrel bent piping, huge resonator, ebay straight through muffler (i guess, i dunno what it is)

anyways, before i scraped a speed bump it sounded really deep.

now it sounds like a big fart, but speedbumps will do that to ya

its a single slammer tho.

I am thinking once you stick a resonator on there anything will sound deeper.

Perhaps a dc sports muffler would even sound good with a resonator.

anyways, thats after it got the hole in the resonator, but it still doesnt sound bad (i cut the tip off of it btw)

That actually doesnt sound that bad. I am looking for something a little lower. Time to start asking people what they have and how they like it......

You can get a quality skunk2 one for $400 shipped from JDM IN STORE on ebay, look that name on google up. or buy from meganracing.com for little less than $400 shipped. I have 2.5 stainless steel megan racing drift style exhaust and it's great!

I'm using an AN-R Header, custom 2.5" piping, and a Spoon N1 Axle back.

Sounds awesome!

This wouldnt be a problem if my exhaust would stop rattling. It sounds like it is from the cat but I dont understand how it could be that.

I am thinking about the heatshields around the piping..Could this be the culprit?
