Default Tumbler removal Help

hey guys, i have a 1992 civic hatch, and i use it for work...
the only problem is...my key dosent turn to start anymore, so i had to crack my own ignition so i can start the car...the key turns far enough to un-lock the steering...but im always worried that it will lock back up because i cant even get the key to position 1!

i searched on how to remove the tumbler (by pressing on the button on the top part of the tumbler) but im not sure if its because im not pressing it hard enough...or because i cant get my key onto position 1....

my question is...is it possible to get the tumbler out even though the key dosent make it to position 1...and if its not...does anyone else have an alternative?? thanks

I did a writeup before, here you go:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Eran &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Here's a little how-to I made on how to remove a key tumbler from your ignition. This should be helpful to anyone who's had a car stolen, or broken a key off in the ignition

Here's how your ignition would sit if it was in your car:

==========================================

Step 1: Remove the TORX T-30 bolt from the bottom of the ignition.

Step 2: Turn the key to the first line (Accessory) and pull away from the ignition.

Step 3: Press the small black dot on the top with a pick or mini screwdriver.

Step 4: PULL

And there you have it. </TD></TR></TABLE>

also some ign do not have the torx screw. they will just pop out by pushing the metal pin, and key set to 1. also note that if you want to transfer just the lock into a new ign. you might get luck and they will swap. if they do not swap, you will have to take off the metal cap on the key lock, and remove the snap ring. then transfer over your pins to the lock. thus re-keying the lock. i had to do this a few weeks, since someone smashed my locks to hell.

All else fails, jamb a screwdriver in there and twist.

no, you'll bend all the pins in the lock. if you take the lock out you can see some of the pins... you can take a penny or something and push themn down
then open lock

You could always try a good lock smith or your local Honda dealer. It might be cheeper then braking the assy. But if push comes to shove just brake the thing and replace the entire assy

you guys sound like a bunch of crazy people. the bolt heads that hold the ign, onto the steering rack. can be removed with a punch or flat head, and hammer. Just hit them on the edges they will start to spin off.
