Default Did my turbo blow its seals??

Hey guys i have a cheap t3/t4 ebay turbo. I have used for 20,000 miles so far and im pretty sure i blew the seals in it today. It smokes like crazy only when im in boost and i lifted the hood and the smell of burnt oil filled the air so im pretty positive its spewing oil everywhere. Im not really too worried about it because it was cheap and i did get quite a bit of miles out of it before it blew. (instead of lasting like 5 minutes)

The question i have is, can this happen without any shaft play because the turbo has absolutely no shaft play whats so ever. Also can this easily be fixed (ie replacing the seals) or do i have to send it out to be fixed. Im going to take it all of tomorrow and check it out. If u guys have any input please let me know. Thanks.

Since you already have it i would suggest having it rebuilt with garret internals

I wouldn't. Chances are they'd have to do a procedure like line boring where the sleeve bearings go, and make sure all surfaces where parallel/perpindicular. Then you'd want new housings, as they use crappy iron and many of the comp housings are put together very poorly, some with epoxy-like material.

Besides, if you have spent that $170 on a good turbo, that turbo you'd have could be $170 better than you can afford now. Based on how hit or miss the cheapies are, you have a high chance of getting a POS next.
