Default ZC trans on D16z6 in an EF... DA inner joint issues

Ok, So I have a 90 si hatch that has a d16z6 in it. I'm running a ZC tranny of unknown yearage. The trans came with one inner joint on the passenger side and the half shaft still dangling out the drivers side. All for $50 with a starter

Now I read somewhere you could take the long drivers side civic axle and put a passenger side DA teg inner joint on it and run with that. Well I did that but it won't snap into place, its like the ring clip isn't expanding like there is no where to expand?! The passenger side DA axles goes right in, i tried bolting it up to the hub and it bound but I didnt realize you had to take off the dust cap and ring on the axle so thats not an issue.

I tried both the DA passenger inner joint and the ZC passenger joint that was in the tranny and both do the same thing on the drivers side. They just never pop into place. Is the drivers side gear in the diff not cut for a snap ring or something?!

I really don't want to run the half shaft since there is only ONE bolt hole drilled/tapped on the Z6 for the half shaft, to keep things simple i'd like to use civic axles w/ da/zc inner hubs but now i'm wondering if that is possible?!

I've ran into this issue before, but I have been told different info from different sources. I think it's something like 90-93 inner joints or something. I dunno

I have the same tranny/engine combo in my CRX. I've been using the half shaft with one bolt holding it togeather for 3 years now with no issues at all making 225 to the wheels. You could just tap one of the other holes to accomondate the half shaft if it makes you feel at ease. I'm using B16 shafts with no dust ring and everything works well togeather.

sweet; that makes me feel a bit more confident in the 1 bolt half shaft

Well I used the 1 bolt on the half shaft after griding the block so it would sit flush.

Everything went well. Pulled the rubber wring off the da axles, pulled the dust caps out of my si hubs; axles slid right in.

BUT I still have one concern. The drivers side axle seemed to be pulled out farther than it felt it should. The bearings aren't popping out of the hub but it seems pretty far out. I ran the hub PAST its normal turning angles and it didnt pull any farther but it still felt a little wrong.

I took the car out on a test drive later and turn the wheel lock to lock and never heard anything funny but it still seems odd. Maybe it's just far enough out the boot is pulling but still well within the travel of bearing grooves in the hub.
