synthetic oil is pointless unless you have some kind of forced induction which puts a lot of strain on your engine. Your engine won't last any longer if you put synthetic oil in it, even if you drive hard!!! The only thing you should do is make sure you change your oil every 3k and thats it!!! castrol, quater state, valvoline, pennzoil are all bullsh*t!!! its all a marketing scam, there are only four major oil companies in north amercia but a million different kinds of oils...

I greatly disagree, it sounds like someone has been feeding you with misinformation.

There are people who do oil analysis, to see how much wear and what kind of wear happened to your engine between an oil change. You just send them a sample of your dirty oil. The results I have seen of dino oil and synthetic oil on the same car are quite obvious.

For more infomration:
Read through here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=163845#1734020
as well as lots of information here http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

ADVANTAGES OF SYNTHETIC OIL
Better lubrication properties. Longer intervals between oil changes are possible because synthetics suffer less breakdown due to the better base stock used. Usually the synthetics will have a better additive package, allowing the oil to clean better , pump better at lower temperatures, get to critical areas faster among other things.
About the four major oil manufactors, each company is going to add there own oil additives. They don't just dump the pure oil into a bottle and sell it.
