Stripped tranny fill bolt
As the title says it is too stripped to fit a normal 17mm wrench on, vise grips don't seem to work and just keep slipping off.
It is in a very tight area right next to the mounting point on the passenger side front LCA. I can't get a socket in there, I can't drill it out and I need to fill my tranny with fluid so I'll be able to drive again!
any ideas? If you guys would like a pic say so I'll have one up tomorrow morning.
Any other spots I can fill the tranny from?

unless you tilt the trans to the side you wont get all the fluid out. thats why you fill the axle/fill hole
for SOHC trans 1.8q at fill up or 2.4q from dry. usually it ends up being just over 2q when you do a drain and fill

Try jacking the car up high and getting a plumber's monkey wrench on the stripped bolt tight. Add a pipe extension and yank it till it pops. The trick is making sure the monkey wrench is on the bolt tightly. This is what i did when i was in your shoes.

you didnt use a 6pt closed end wrench did you?
try that first. pray you didnt mangle it up so much itll still fit.
if you can fit it on, theres no way it will continue to strip. youll be able to get it off then with enough torque. use your legs and brace your back.

That's the first thing I did and it was already too stripped from the previous owner to grab enough that way even.
If I remove the speedo sensor to fill it will I need to remove the engine mount because it's quite close to it.
How about the third yellow down next to the lower rad hose any chance I can disconnect this one and fill it from there it's the easiest to access right now.
The reason I ask is that everything is reinstalled on the car right now so if I don't need to re remove stuff I'd appreciate that.
Thx for all the comments guys!

I highly recommend not filling your tranny until you get that bolt open. The tranny casing can be very sensitive to overfill and i've had numerous tranny o-rings begin to leak on me when i overfilled. Don't take the risk and trust the axle holes.
I suppose you could cut the head flat enough to put a wrench on it.
I dont mean cut a new hex on it, jus cut 2 big flats and put a crescent on it.
good luck
let us know how you got it out, if you do
it has always been about 1.8-1.9 every time I changed my tranny oil
but my fill bolt works
you should not have to remove the e-mount to get the spedo hole open
I tried that though and it would not come off, so I decided the imprecision of filling through the top was not worth avoiding the restricted access to the proper fill hole.
I got some of the oil in the spedo cable socket by accident and my spedo jumps around again, I guess the lube in the cable is incompatible with 10w-30
It sux cuz I replaced this soon after I got the car.
so I would avoid filling through the top.
unless you are the kind of guy that takes your car apart as much as you drive it (we all gotta have a hobby right?
) I would do things the way Honda tells you to. This includes using the lube Honda tells you to use.
Before I have to deal with pointless flaming
I am not saying you guys are wrong to fill through the top,
just that different driving and maintenance styles require different methods.

I know that this is terrible timing, sorry bout the bolt.
I was told once to always remove the fill bolt first, so that in case it strips you still have oil
. it makes sense,so I always do it just in case
again sorry man, live and ya learn. I stripped a drain bolt once. pretty much do it once and you will never use the wrong tools again. hopefully

I think this is the best idea so far. Just do what you have to do to get it off, trash it, and replace it with a fresh new one.
Grog is right about taking the filler off first from now on.

I filled it thru the hex 5mm bolt this morning. Then I was really happy with myself cause i thought i had fixed it. Turns out I leaked it all back on the ground but I only found out after taking it for a 10 minute test drive because I had also replaced the lower ball joints, the dizzy and both axles as well as the clutch. Dizzy is giving me a code 9 which is some sensor in it. Could this be due to timing being a slight bit off?
I was lucky I didnt drive it long cause I'm guessing not much tranny fluid was left in there. Oh and my speedo cable doesnt work so I'll need to play with it a bit looks like we didn't reconnect it right.
At this point I don't think I'll be able to remove the fill bolt in my garage using floor jacks so I'll refill the tranny a bit and drive it to like a minute lube and have them take it off refill it properly and use a new nut and washer I got at Honda yesterday

well I'm still battling with this the axle seal on the driver side leaks and today I pulled the axle out a bit before using a pry bar and now the boot closer to the tranny feels like there is too much grease in there. The boot feels really full like it filled up with air and it's almost like a baloon right now so the 2 parts inside dont touch each other unless i squeaze the 2 parts again each other.
This is a brand new axle btw will I need to open it up to fix this? Does my explanation make sense? Any help?
