Gas tank welding/repair
Hello everyone.
I'm new to these forums and was directed here from some BMW forums for your excellent welding/fab section!
My gas tank is leaking around the mid-seam (clamshell type construction), and I was wondering what options are out there for repair.
What is the suggested method for welding tanks? Just have it purging with argon for a while with hopes that all of the oxygen and gasoline vapor will be dispersed?
Let me know if anyone has any first hand experience with this. I don't want the tank blowing up in my face!

when the gas tank is out and empty, just put an exhaust hose in it from another running car and the carbon monoxide from the running car will dry the tank from fumes.
Why take a chance and repair it yourself? If the tank is not purged correctly it will be the last thing you ever do. Besides it can be replaced or repaired cheaply and profesionally without the risk.
