Default 99 Prelude Random Code!! p1399 Car started running like crap.

Cars been driving perfect. I drove to the gym and came home. It Drove great.

Then I left for work and at the light it started to hesitate. Then under accel it hesitated and kinda bogged.

I then entered the freeway and hit the gas. The car bogged and hesitated real bad and the check engine light flashed but when I let off the gas it went away. I went home and checked the code.

p1399 and I searched and it's not a Honda code. But it could mean random misfire.

Dropped it off to Honda Dealer and they found nothing. ran diognostics and came up with nothing.

What could it be then? Just a random thing. Or what else should I do?????

it was probably a misfire from what it sounds like.

Well, They found some oil leaks. Not bad but in a bunch of places. In the timing belt cover, oil pan, and maybe the rear main seal.

I knew it was leaking in two of the places. I just couldn't get time to deal with it.

Also once they opened the timing belt cover the seal on the balancing shaft was missing the retainer and popped off once they opened it.

So once all the misc. leaks are fixed I wonder if the slipping or hesitation goes away completely.

I was not prepared for this. This sucks.

Welcome to fantasticaly horrible world of THE MISSFIRE You will probably start to see codes 71-72-73&74 along with mysterious P1399. I have these problems. I have found, through numerous hours of searching, that ALOT of Honda/Acura owners have these problems. I am at my witts end with this. Someone will be along shortly to tell you just to change the spark plugs and do a tune up, Probably won't help. I have read where people in our perdiciment have replaced everything but the entire running gear of their car, all in vein. I myself dropped $140 just today for a Honda dealer to do a valve adjustment because I read where someone, somewhere, fixed this problem by adjusting the valves. Well.....Didn't work for me ! Figures. I talked with the Tech that was adjusting the valves and asked him if he has seen where the valves being missadjusted would cause random missfires, "Nope, Its all those aftermarket parts you have on there, seen those intakes and high flow exhausts cause it." Just incase your thinking it, I also read where a guy was told that and put his 5th gen back to stock. XX WRONG AGAIN XX Still threw the missfire codes.

Here are things I have done* or heard that may help;
Tune up of course*
Clean/Replace IACV*
Bleed air out of coolant*
Clean/Replace EGR*
Clean/Replace Injectors
Replace Crank Sensor
Replace ECM* Did this, got rid of the code(OBDI) but can still feel missfire.
Replace Distributor

I am sure I am leaving some suggestions out but can't remember all of them now. Right now where I am at with this thing is: I did a compression check the other day and my pressures are all screwed up, #4 cylinder is registering 100psi dry/ 200psi wet(rings bad). I am going to pull the engine and rebuild in a few weeks. Thing is, I am not sure the two months of missfires did not have anything to do with screwing up my rings. So there you have it, my story. Or I could be wrong and you just need to replace the spark plugs. I hope. Goodluck, Wes
