RPM issue
i just got done swapping transmissions in my car (90 hatch si b16a1 swap), i took out a y1 and put in a ys1 when i went to take it down the road i could not go above 4,000 RPM. in first and second i could get to 4 but after that it was about 3,500.
what it would do is, i could have my foot to the floor but as soon as it got close to 4 it felt like it was boggin, even hesitant gettin up there. i can rev it past 4 when not in gear. the only CEL i have is 2 which i believe is an oxygen sensor, so what else could be causing my car to do this???
TIA

sounds like your ecu's in limp mode...try resetting it. Are you sure you didn't touch anything else besides replacing your tranny? How are your vacuum lines? check timing too.
ok well i tried resetting my ecu by unplugging it for a minute and undoing the battery and neither worked, also when i hold the peddle to the floor it wants to die.
what could be causing it to do it or what are some other tests i could do to pinpoint whats goin on???

maybe a helpfull piece of information:
before i swapped transmissions the popping the transmission was making was enough to have the knock sensor pick it up (at least i think thats what was getting it) and would momentarily power would shut off then right back on, could this be the cause?

you are missing your second o2 sensor. you may review swap issues for the b16a1 to figure out your second o2 issue.. ive read about but never performed the swap so i cant tell you if the secondary 02 is causing that problem.. but you probably should search for info here to figure out your problem.
alright well still havent found what is causing this problem, it seems like it is running a little rich, seems that there is a little excessive white smoke.
when you push the gas to the floor it wil take off to 5000 and then die till about 3 and it will studder around there almost like a studder box popping and stuff, unplugged the ecu and still didnt do anything for it.

you should fix the cell, meaning wire up your secondary, and dont bump this thread until you do. if it still happens when you finish that, we can help you more. you didnt happen to miss a transmission ground wire either did you?

alright well i have checked rechecked all the grounds and plugs and even swapped disttibutors but still runs like it is in limp mode and i wired in the second 02.
when i started the car for the first time after i got it done we had to jump it cuz the battery didnt have enough juice, in the process one of the ground wires wasnt hooked up and was causing it to spark. could this have burnt something up? and what would it have burnt up???

i could just b a wirein problem in the cpu (a rev limiter) my friend had the same problem when swapin a zc wouldnt go over 35-4000rpm found out it wasnt wired right. u no anything about rear disk brake swaps?????
well the thing is we didnt mess with any of the wiring cuz it was fine from when the motor was first swapped
* the car has sat since last fall, do you think that maybe the gas is just too crappy now?

so your rpm dont go past 4k in first gear how is that? they keep hitting 4k and come back? is that what you mean? you sure its not the transmission was it working fine before with the old one? i mean if you just swapped out tranny's and your getting this problem than its probably a tranny problem.. i mean there aint nothing else that could be causing this ecu maybe? nothing else..
the engine ran fine in the car before I blew the diff in the old y1 tranny. The car doesnt want to rev over 4 grand at all really. Its running pig rich and will back fire at around 4 grand, then almost die and the idle will surge up and down for a bit. The timing is fine ive checked it, both the cam and ignition timing. I thought the ecu was in limp mode, I reset it and nothing happened it all. The car runs like its stuck in limp mode, it wont rev past 4 grand or go over 55 mph. Ive checked and re checked all the grounds and wiring and its all good.
