I installed a new Daiken TypeR clutch a couple weeks ago along with an exedy lightweight flywheel in my gsr tranny. The motor is a complete stock GSR minus the intake. The response in first gear definitely feels quicker but overall it feels like it's alot harder to peel out and its definitely harder to leave rubber on the ground when slamming second gear. I was told its better to keep the stock gsr flywheel until ive modded the motor out making it a lot quicker. Any input on this? Will I get better performance out of the stock flywheel, or should I just leave the 9.5pound flywheel I installed recently?

 

I've heard this too, but never heard a for sure answer of WHY (I have an exedy clutch with a fidanza flywheel)...

did you break the clutch in first?

 

Yeah the clutch is definitely broken in by now. I waited about 300 miles before I started to have fun with it.

And yeah that is true about the traction. I guess Im just trying to get some input and make sure Im not losing power anywhere because of that flywheel. I have a stronger clutch than my original gsr clutch and now its hammering on a lighter flywheel so overall doesnt that mean its gripping better? On a heavier flywheel its easier to spin the tires because the clutch is taking time to grip the heavier flywheel correct? I know im probably way off like a nub.

 

actually break in on a clutch is about 750 miles, thats waht it was on my exedy stage one at least, I have 8 lb flywheel in a 00 si and she spins nice

 

i just ordered my 8lbs fidanza and my stage 1 exedy...b18...is this flywheel to light weight?

 

mine took a little gettin used to but I like it down shifting is nice

 

what do you mean down shifting is nice? what differences did you notice on shifts?

 

the flywheel is a lot lighter so the revs are quicker. Meaning when you downshift it rev matches a lot faster. I agree I totally noticed the difference there too. Also first gear accelleration seems quicker.

Nah, that's what I'm running on my GSR

And the break-in is 750 miles on Exedy clutches...so you might have started having fun a LITTLE bit too early

 

yeah on exedy CLUTCHES, I have an exedy FLYWHEEL with a stock typeR clutch meant for USDM typeR's.

 

The day I purchase anything from Exedy for my Honda will be a cold day in a land down under, and I am not refering to Australia. Granted for some reason when you run a lightweight flywheel on a bone stock engine tranny setup it doesn' really give you quite what you would think for power..... I ran a fidanza flywheel with a Clutchmaster Stage IV clutch, with the plans to build into it.....and at first I didn't really notice anything great other than the quicker engage of the clutch...but other than that nothing until I went turbo then I noticed quite a bit of difference, so for fun I switched back to the stock flywheel and clutch and there was a huge difference. But that is just my two cents worth.

 

Exactly, I found out a lot more and you basically wont see/feel too much of a difference in performance when running a lightweight flywheel on a compelte stock setup. Quicker revs when rev matching I think is the main thing but until you start to add more power I.E turbo or built motor, it doesnt seem that you will notice that much of a pickup in flying through the RPM's faster.

why the hell would you put a stage 4 clutch in a stock car anyway ??

 

LoL I was thinking the same thing but was just too lazy to type it. I guess it wouldnt really hurt though. Specially if he plans on adding a lot more power in the near future.

yeah but he put his stock **** back in, at any rate, you should be happy with your setup, GL and take it easy on that clutch
