Default Si exhaust

I really like the way the stock Si exhaust sounds on my car, but the stock piping is crush bent. Would it be a worthy upgrade to have custom mandrel bent piping made, and use the stock muffler and resonator????
Or could I buy only the cat back piping? I also like the stock look of the muffler.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Yes it would be worthy because you should pick up a few ponies by doing that.

Since I would have the new piping welded onto the stock exhaust, what size should I use?? (what is the stock Si piping?)

Well, the stock piping is 50mm or 55mm I think. You will probably want to use 2.5" piping. It is plenty big for NA, and you will not lose torque like you would if you went with 3".

I would go 2" or 2.25" if your car is staying N/A. 2.5" is too big.

No no, 2.5 is ideal for high power NA.

Okay, so I should use 2.25 or 2.5 inch mandrel piping, but will it be easy to attach that to the stock muffler and resonator, or will the weld joints form turbulence?? I wouldn't mind buying a aftermarket cat-back, but the stock sounds perfect, super quiet down low, and screaming up top

If you get anything bigger than stock you will want to use new flanges. Don't skimp there because they are cheap, and you know already they will interrupt the flow of the exhaust gases.

Check this out from Konig. Not quite sure if they have the center section or not. Used one on my old 93 civic ex coupe. Seemed to work fine.
http://www.konigwheels.com/catalog_p...MIDDLE%20PIPES You might consider a hi-flo cat and a header if you don't already have them.

Hey thanks, I appreciate the replies alot
So If I got that mandrel bent Konig middle pipe, and connected it to my stock Si muffler and some DC 4-2-1 I would be in buisiness, right?? I don't want a high flow cat because I always hear about them going out after only a year.
I want to hook up my exhaust like that, but I am not really sure if I want to get an intake. I don't want to get any droning sound on the highway, and if it rains I have no other car to drive. Do you think the stock Si intake will be sufficient, do you think I should get one to maximize the new exhaust???
Thanks

A new intake is always a good idea. The AEM CAI is the best. I had one on my D16Y8 before I went turbo and I loved it.

Does the AEM cold air intake drone on the highway??? I know to get performance I will have to do things that will make my car louder, but I just sold my old loud civic with exhaust for my new Si and I really enjoy the peace and quite after a couple of years in my old car.

you know you could do 2.25" until the res. then after the res do 2.5" that's what AEM does. that way you dont loose TRQ, but you also dont loose too much upper RPM HP. Oh and i would also say get the AEM CAI, it's great... it will feel like 20 more ponnies at night when its cool outside. (really its like 7-8hp to the wheels)
Look on http://www.aempower.com and check out their intake section, they have dyno plots for almost every application. just subtract like 1-2 hp from their graph and thats about what you will get. (they use the upper averages of like 20 dynos) I have had a AEM short ram... and i would say the stock is about the same with a drop in K&N filter. So if you are going to change your intake, you have to go cold air or it's a waste of money. Its a little harder to clean your filter, but once you get used to it, and know what to do it only takes 10 more minutes than cleaning another intake filter. It has a bit of a hissing sound, but you can't hear it unless your outside of your car listening for it, and on the freeway.... i couldn't tell you... i have a 5Zigen.. so i can't hear my intake over the exsaust... but i could hear my short ram intake over the exsaust... so.. if that helps.. the header added alot of hissing too... not too much.. the power gains are worth the hissing. But the more your do to your car the more its going to run like crap for every day driving. I would also say get the AEM brake pads (NISSIN makes them) they cut your 0-60 braking distance by like 20 feet... or something like that.. you would have to look on thier website. ok im rambling.... hope that helps.

I appreciate the feedback alot guys, thanks

So if I get the AEM CAI should I also get the bypass valve, how real is the threat of sucking water up through the intake?
What size is the stock Si piping on the exhaust?? I want to replace the exhaust piping only, and the Konig site dosn't have a middle pipe for the 99-00 Si. Do you think Mandrel pipe with stock muffler will perform has well has a Apexi WS?

Civicsportline, so you say any of these mods will make my car run more like crap for everyday driving? This is my only car and I need it to run well in all conditions, that is why I want to retain the stock muffler, I am willing to give alittle performance to make my car comfortable and quiet, but I still want added power. What are the mods that will detract from the drivability?

So, anybody tell me, if I do this to my Si will it still be a great daily driver with added performance and still run quiet??

2000 Civic Si: already has Koni yellows and Nitto 505's. I want to add........

Eibach prokit springs
AEM CAI (with or without bypass valve?)
DC sports 4-2-1 ceramic coated header (1 piece or 2 piece?)
mandrel bent piping with stock muffler (Is there a bolt on middle pipe out there for my car?)

Wussup man. I'm in Dallas(fairly close to you) and you wont have to worry about AEM intake sucking water. Every person I know that had this intake never had that hydrolic problem. If you live in rainy areas, that's a different story. . . But if you have money to spend, spend your money on a Comptech Icebox. It dynos better than AEM, and is quiet just like you want.
