Default What can make a TPS go out?

I replaced a bad TPS about 3-4 months ago with a used TPS. The "new" TPS is going out agian. I know that the used replacement TPS might not have had much life left on it, but I'm wondering if there might be a larger underlying issue with my motor that may have caused another TPS to go bad. <U>Besides time, is there anything else that might cause a TPS to go bad?</U>

B18C
Chipped ECU (running somewhat rich)

Let me know if you need more information. Thanks for any input

i've never heard of a TPS sensor going bad, but maybe thats just me. there could be a problem in your wiring harness somewhere.

I would have thought that if that was the case then it would happened earlier than 16 weeks later, but I will check that, thanks.

my tps sensor was hitting brake lines (skunk 2 mani fold and str tb so it sat close) it didnt even break the tps. it did make it move a bit.

i originally set my tps .45 closed and it hit 4.90 WOT. i still got CEL when i had WOT.

then i read that one guys integra was set to .32 closed throttle from the factory.

so i did that, and now i dont get a CEL and my idle is fine.

try resetting your TPS to .32v closed throttle and test it out.

you can also test to see if its bad by setting it, then slowly opening the throttle and if the reading doesnt go up smoothly, or jumps around, then its bad.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 92ehatch &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">. . . then slowly opening the throttle and if the reading doesnt go up smoothly, or jumps around, then its bad.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I don't have a reader, and I'm not throwing a CEL, yet, but under very light throttle it's jumping from no throttle to perhaps 25% throttle and bounces there. This is the same issue I had before, and after replacing the TPS it cleared everything up, until now. I don't have any "jumping" when I'm at 30% throttle or more.

I have a Honda and Acura dealership right by me, so I'm probably going to see about getting a new one at lunch, but I'm looking to see if anyone knows if there could be an underlying issue that might cause this new one to go out also.

Also, I checked and the TPS is tighter than a Nun's C---

so you replaced the TPS and didnt calibrate it?

thats probably why you are having the trouble.

go to harbor freight, get the $5 multimeter and calibrate that thing man
