sc60 to big for minor modded b16?
i have a b16 with gsr cams, 65mm throttle body, and a type r intake manifold. i have a t3 but it is leaking oil, and needs to be rebuilt. i came across a deal here in town on a sc60. i see the sc60 is rated to 580hp and the sc60-1 is rated fror 680, long time b4 i get to either, but will the sc60 be more reasonable for my motor, or will this turbo be too much? my friend had it on his h23 and it wasnt laggy it was at full boost at around 4700rpm's. will an sc60 be overkill, be to big? what would yall do?
i.m.h.o. the sc60 might be a little overkill. the h23 is boosting fully at 4700 rpm? that seems a little high being the the redline is pretty low compared to b-series motors. it would most likely spool later on your mildly modified b16. furthermore, your peak power might be higher than with a smaller turbo, but your drivability will be reduced. its not very practical to have that sized turbo with your application, you wouldnt have much low-end power or torque; you'd have to tach it out to make your power. just my two cents. good luck with your decision.
well, i scored a t3/t4 for 250 here in town, the guy i bought it from took his t3/t4 of and put on an sc61, great b/c no shaft play, and i know it has no leaks b/c he just took it off and it wasnt leakin, thanks though
My last turbo B16 was using an SC6176E and it was fine. Spool was a little slower than the T3/ 60-1 I had on it before but very livable spool with 9:1 and GSR cams. Full boost around 5000 rpms with a good tune.
I had to sc61 on a stock B16 block as well....made ~300whp at 8psi.
full boost around 4500rpm
When you can rev the motor to 9k whats the problem with hitting full boost at %50 of your RPM range? Seems like your kind of keeping the same traditional B16 peaky power band, which is still fun to drive.
I loved it.
