B16 Idol Problems
Hey yall, so as soon as my engine warms up it begins to idol at about 1100 rpm's and then it starts bouncing, goes up to 1100 and then drops down to 800 to 900 rpm's then goes back up to 1100 for a few seconds then drops as soon as it hits 800-900 rpms it bounces back up to 1100 for a few more seconds then back down and up, over... and over... and over again lol i wanna fix this but im not sure if its just a matter of adjusting the screw in the throttle body or if its a bad tps sensor... or maybe my air idol control valve... hopin some one could give me a little advice

checked coolant, there wasnt any problem with how much was in it. In addition to the problem i already stated i noticed after it bounces back up, it sloooowly starts raising to about 1250 and then it drops to 800-900 then back up to 1100 then slowly raises and drops etc, by slowly i mean it moves about 100 rpms in about 2-3 seconds then drops... anyone else have ne advice?
set the TPS and timing make sure the throttle cable is letting the TB close all the way.
if all the is working and good. then set the idle lower and reset the TPS. what happens is the resolution on the factory maps are bad at low rpm high vac causing the hunting idle. easy fix with ems and data logging, a pain in the *** with stock ecu.

First off check for vacuum leaks. Start by replacing your vacuum lines. If that doesn't fix the idle spray your intake manifold with brake clean, If you have a vacuum leak your engines vacuum will suck in a little brake clean and your engine will die instantly. so if you spray it with brake clean and it dies you've got a vacuum leak in your intake manifold. Theres a few places where your manifold can possibly lose vacuum so spray small sections at a time to narrow it down to a specific spot. sometimes its a throttle body gasket. If that doesn't work try adjusting the idle screw on your throttle body. Sometimes having your idle too high or too low will cause the engine to surge. Theres a special process for adjusting your idle screw though, I think you have to unplug the EACV when you are adjusting the screw. Hope that helps!
I think someone has been watching a little bit too much of American Idol!
anyway, as someone already stated check the coolant, HOWEVER, check to make sure there are no bubles of air in the coolant by bleeding your coolant system, the bleeder bolt is near the thermostat I do believe.

the guy said he checked it.
i set my idle by unplugging the eacv.. idles alot smoother.. but you got to make sure you set it low enough. because first time i set it i pluged the eacv back in and it idled at 1500 but would surge.. so did it again and now its at about 1100-1250 (used to have an after market tach and it was always lower then the stock one so i figured thats probably not that high) and now it doesnt surge at all.. but the rpm will still drop really low then go up to about 1250 then slowly down to 1100 so its not perfect. i also had to reset my ecu after i unplugged the eacv because i got a cel and code 9 and 14. this is a d15b2 with mpfi swap.. im sure its the same process to adjust it though.
