215/40 or 215/45
hey guys, hows it going
I've got myself a little problem here, ive got a set of 17" rims and cant decide to go with a 215/40 or a 215/45 tire. I know the 40 series is slightly smaller than stock, and the 45 series is slightly bigger.
Any suggestions on what you's have been running and if you've encountered any problems?
Car is a 1994 Honda Accord LX coupe, eibach pro-kit springs with kyb agx's, so about a 1.2" drop.
thanks a lot
Jamie

215/45 40 will be to small for a prokit drop..
im running 215/50s on my 17x7.5 racing hart c2s... and they rub when i brake hard.. they dont look as good as the 45s that i had.. but its alright.. dont wanna pop or bend any rims around the pot holes around here..

If you go to any tire dealer...(sears auto, etc...) they will have a book where you can look up the proper size for your car pending the size of the rim you are putting on it... mmmmmmmmkay

1) speedo will be off. (will read faster than what you are actually going)
2) wheel gap will be even bigger.
3) 40 series tires make for easily-bent rims.

Will also affect the mileage on you car. Smaller tires= more spins per mph= more miles being read to the odometer than your actually doing = your bbv dropping faster.

If you are getting a GREAT deal on them, maybe you dont want to pass them up...depending on the road conditions where you live. I live in VA and there are not that many potholes. My girl lives in Philly, god man, there are potholes EVERYWHERE.
Civic people use these rims, so you face about the same chance of bending a rim that the civic guys face. Bendind a rim aint no fun though. I bent two of my rims with one pothole in SC with my 215/45/17 tires. Luckily, I now have a friend who fixes rims for a living.
In terms of looks, yes, they might look a bit small on your Accord. Smaller rims give more acceleration, but lower top speed, and your car will probably rev a tad bit higher to go the ACTUAL speed of the highway. Just use a GPS to figure out how much your speedo is off.

The rims right now have 205/40's that i drove around with for about half of last summer, i cant wait to get bigger tires on them though, they looked kinda stupid and im sure itll ride a bit better with bigger tires now too.
