Default replace rings with fresh head

Is it a good idea to replace rings with rebuilt head? Motor has roughly 95,000 on it. old head had a hole in the intake valve, lost compression in third cylinder, and failed emissions test. Was wondering if anybodies car burned oil with old rings and rebuilt head and how much. (d15b2)
Any input would be great.
Thanks

if your motor only has 95,000 on it I would assume the bottome end to be good......when the head was off how did the cylinder walls look? Did they still have the nice factory hone marks or where there vertical scratches?

the original hone marks were slightly visible. it didn't look like there was any vertical scratches. I will take a look tomorrow a little better. Last head gasket that i changed smoke really bad when the rings were not changed. Just getting lazy, and trying to make myself feel better for not wanting to change them.
thanks, for reply.

it is possible that your head was warped....take your head to a machine shop and have them check it out...also make sure your mating surface on the top of the block is perfect so it will seal up good....at 95,000 miles I bet your whole bottom end has a lot of life left in it....
