oil in IM
hey guys, so im just wondering what it means if i have a bunch of oil residue in my intake manifold? im thinking bad rings causeing blowby and forcing oil through the PCV valve and there for putting oil in the intake? or what are the possibilities?
its normal to have some oil in the intake due to the design of the PCV system. if there is a large amount then perform a leakdown test to see if the rings are bad
how much is some? mine was pretty well coated in the cyl 4 intake then the rest were less and about the some. how else could oil get in there? my compression was about 180-190 on all 4 when it was running. could there be blowby even with good compression?
if your rings are bad the thing will smoke , if there terrible it will smoke like a pot head. If its not smoking to bad , and your scratching your head , do a leak down test/ Pressure test , that will tell you if your rings are gone. In my expierence , extreme oil in the IM is rare. Oil blow by USUALLY burns out through the exhaust valves, which means your rings arent seating right anymore , cause it to smoke horribly. I would think if your rings are gone , your compression wouldnt be to high , but it also means it wouldnt be to low, i would say a pressure test would point out the proplem.
i have everything tore down and am putting in itr pistons and rings. hopefully that will clear things up. can it burn alot of oil even if the compression is good? like itd be understandle it the compression was lower..
