are there any disadvantages for running a tire slightly wider than oem? this is going on a 00 SI with stock SI rims. thanks

 

use 205/50/15s

 

Going to a 205 series tire is a very common upgrade on a Si, but you would need to get 205/50/15 or your speedo will be off. What kind of tire are you thinking about getting?

no 55's most of the time wont rub.

 

I used to run 205/50/15 Bridgestone RE750's, but they had some really bad camber wear when I got them, and that ****'s like rust. Once it starts, there's no stopping it.

I now run 195/50/15 Fuzion ZRi (made by Bridgestone, very similar to the RE750). They're fantastic, but I miss running 205's.

u want the smallest sidewall possible so go with the 50 the smaller the sidewall the less roll there will be around high speed cornering

205/50/15 will have almost the same sidewall width as 195/55/15, cause the middle number reflects the precent of the width that the sidewall is tall. The 195's will have a 107.25mm sidewall while the 205's will have a 102.5mm sidwall. Thats about half a centemeter difference, which is not that much.

 

i have 205/50/15s on my stock SI rims.. no fitment/rubbing issues.. and like stated above, more contact surface is better..

i ran 195/55/15 on si wheels on my eg. they did rub when i would make hard turns etc but it wasnt that bad. my speedo was deff off a good 3mph. and i tested that with the road radars. I would do 60 and it would read 63.

I recommend 205 50 15s over the 195 55 15. duno how to explain it, but it just felt more normal. call it a butt dyno but i was happy.

Auto-X Falken Azenis 615s or Kuhmo MXs

Daily Driving I personally like the Yoko AVS ES100 cause they last long and are great for wet weather and dont give any vibration or road noise.

All-seasons.... Dunno, never ran anything

Winter Deff the winterforce tires.. love mine.

Plz stop misinforming the uninformed... Now read this once and read twice if you have too wider is not better.... better compound is better. Don't waste your money on a wider tire when could of just got a better compound.

Now 195-55-15 is the right size for your car but you can also run the 205-50-15 which while not mess up your speedometer or odometer and not have rubbing issues. Also 205-55-15 is way to big and you will have rubbing issues and inaccurate speedometer and odometer as well as poor acceleration and handling.

For auto-x I agree with the RT-615 but if you plan on daily driving on them you will be changing them more often then other tire. Also they suck in the rain.

For Daily Driving the ES100 are good but compared to the Kumho SPT they come second to them. The SPT did better then the ES100 in every category tested. Also the SPT's are cheaper! They are the best bang for the buck tire out now!

 

I also recommend the Yoko ES100s.

That makes sense. I have SI wheels and I run 195/50/15 on mine and the speedo is 5 mph off. As I also tested this via radar trailers.

 

205/50-15 will be 1/2 shorter then stock 195/55-15, and will cause the speedo to show a faster spee then you are actually traveling. on the other side, 205/55-15 will be taller, and cause the speedo to show a lower reading then you are actually traveling. what you need is 215/50-15

195/50-15= 22.67
205/50-15= 23.07
195/55-15= 23.44
215/50-15= 23.46
205/55-15= 23.87
275/35-15= 22.57 (just threw this in there for ***** & giggles, my new track tire size)

 

205-50-15!! good tire to run! i now have 195-55-15 for now.. getting 205 when they wear out

 

I do agree with the 215 being closer to stock the problem is that they probably won't fit on an Si wheel. Also I believe some rubbing will be an issue. That is why the 205 is a better candidate.

 

i personally would rather have 195/50/15's they have a smaller sidewall and only 1cm difference in width

 

195/55/15 if your car car is hella low it will rub but if its not that low you will be fine. i run 195/50/15 i like it.
