Check engine light after a rough speedy night.
About two days ago my wife and I were driving home from a trip and it was around 12 midnight when we got into a fight. A car cut me off and I was already pist off and I floored the car like crazy. I did catch up to the guy who cut me off and passed him but I really fear it was not worth the win now. I own an AUTOMATIC Honda accord 98 lx sedan 2.3 litter engine 4 cyl. I don't know to much about cars but my friend has a car garage and I asked him to take a look at it but he doesn't have time until later this week. I was just wondering if anyone could give me a few theories of what my stupidity did to my car. The only mod I have done to my car was place a AEM V2 coldair intake into my car.
Just as my wife and I got home the car started to feel like a stick shift and like it wanted to stall out on me. My car has stalled out on me before even though it is an automatic. Is was due to a bad catatalic converter (sp). This was about 3 or 4 years ago. I really hope its not that again because it was around $600 dollars to by a new manufactor one with my sisters discount because she used to work at a dealership.
Basically the best details i can give is this.
I start my car up and it feels like it is struggling just a bit. It shakes on me while I am idol like its going to stall out on me. It does it for about a few seconds then stops then does it again. When I Place it into drive it has a real crappy start off. Just like when I was learning how to drive a stick shift haha.
But when I reach a higher speed around 45 its not that bad if even noticeable at all.
If anyone could give me a bit of advice while I wait for my friend with the car garage?
Thanks
Mike

throwing a CEL?
it's most likely a sensor, I did somthing like that in my old car and right when I finished I got a CEL that freaked me out, turned out it was the MAP sensor I believe, but your problem could be totally different.
Edit: the topic say check engine light, didn't realize that for some reason first time I read this
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1901557
this is for a civic, but it's similar to an accord, post your results and we'll tell you what to inspect/replace.
edit2: Ok, I keep forgetting that OBD2 cars don't use the same method of testing, bring the car to an autozone and have them pull the codes for free, write the codes down and bring them here or have the autozone tech figure them out, go from there.

is that what you call a fight, you should have ran his *** off the road, then pulled his *** out of the car and caved his face in, then what you do is you **** in his mouth. thats what i would have done

I went to take it to autozone today and I had a very rude HELPER! so I'm going to just wait to take it to my friends garage.
But from what the sensor reader thing he used, he told me that I had multiple misfires.
He told me that I should check the spark plugs and and those things
and then he said if that doesn't fix it then check the coil.
WHAT IS THE COIL!?!?!
haha
Just wondering so I don't sound like a total idoit when I talk to my friend haha.

he's talking about the ignition coil.
your ignition coil adjusts the voltage high enough to create an arc for your spark plugs.
if it's intermittent it can cause problems, I've seen more distributors go bad then I have ignition coils though.

take off each spark plug cable one by one and inspect it, put them back on one at a time, check both ends, make sure they're all on firmly.
Once I had a cable pop off my distributor and it started acting funny, found it just hanging there so I put it back.

yeah my great wonderful car won't start now hahaha
You can hear it wanna start but it won't just do it!
So now I can't drive it to my friends garage SOOO!!! I called my friend up and he believes its the distributor so I'll just buy a new distributor and spark plug wires, and work from there.
I'll post as soon as I get it my order sent to my house and installed.
Thanks for all the advice!
