Honda Civic (EH3) D16Z6, good choice for a project this summer?
I love the 5th gen hatch style and it seems to me the Si version (EH3) would be the best base to start from. My main question is whether or not this a good car to start with. Is the engine moddable up to 300 hp? 400 hp? Is it reliable? I know I am going to turbo the car.
Also this would be my first Honda (coming from BMW) and would be my first project car. I have no experience in working on my own car, but my idea is to get experience with a cheaper platform (Honda) and still have an awesome result afterward. My goals would be to have a Honda that could out handle a BMW M3, and could beat a stock Camaro LS1 in a straight.

Thats a great base to start,i want an EH3!
Boost it,you can get 220plus hp with a good tune, then replace the internals and you can maybe get closer to 300 with other mods. They limit at about 400-450hp.
However the money you spend to get 400hp out of the D,you might as well swap a B in and make more HP.

I am unfamiliar with the use of "Stages" to describe mod levels. Can you describe Stage 2 and 3?
But to me a turbo install would be the same level of difficulty. Just more steps involved.
Its just I am not sure if one of the 5th gen civic engines would be good to turbo or should I just swap in a B series engine and then turbo the B series.

Please do not do this. That is a common mistake about people thinking there are mandatory stages for the car. Do enough research and your goals are very attainable and actually are not too far away. Dont waste your money on an intake and header on your 100whp car to get another 10hp because your obviously not going to be happy with the result. Save that money and put it toward something like a turbo, pistons rods, tuning tools and other things you will need to reach your power and handling goals.
Go into the archives and search the threads and marketplace and ask questions as you go along and im sure you'll be happy with results. Just remember to try to do it right the first time
