Default Axle pops out..whats going on?

Ok well to start off I have a 1994 Honda Accord Ex 2dr Automatic...Ive had this car for about a year and half now..ever since I had it the passengers side wheel has set back further than the drivers side..someone told me it could be the control arm so i replaced that and it helped a little bit but its still not where it should be...but ever since Ive replaced the control arm my axle pops out of the tranny just a smidge and makes some clanging noises when i hit bumps or apply the brakes and let off..ive replaced the axle 3 times inthe past 2 weeks and it keeps doing it...im not exactly sure what the problem is..I dont see how it could be the wrong axle three times in a row..but i guess that is a possibilty..has anyone ever had this problem or know what it could be? thanks for any help guys

Are you putting new spring clips in the end of the axles when you install them? Be sure and push the axle in until you hear the spring clip click, that way you know it's engaged and won't come out of there.

Hmm, that's weird. I suppose it's possible that the part of the transmission that holds the spring clips could be damaged so that it doesn't hold them, but I don't know how that would have happened. Is it both axles doing it or just one side? and where are you buying your parts?

a couple years ago i bought a 91 civic 4 dr as a beater. and one of the bars that comes from the subframe to the bottom of the suspension has welded back together, thus CHANGING the suspension's geometry.

my axle kept popping out as well. i gave the car back and got my money back cuz it seemed to have some frame damage and they tried to rig it back up to work.

my suggestion is to check EVERYTHING.. even what you think would not cause it.

please keep us posted cuz i am curious. and i will check back daily if you have any updates/questions..

i know how it is to have a car(your only car) ******* up on you and you have no clue what it is. frustrating.. good luck

BTW... i went thru 6-7 axles in less than 2 months

I agree the suspension bent or misaligned could be the real cause of the axle popping out.
This could also cause the inner or outer Joint to be in a different than normal position and wear faster.

well the axle doesnt pop out anymore..but the passengers side tire is still back about 3/4s of an inch than it should be..it was a lot worse..but I think I just need to get all the major suspension components replaced and go from there..im gonna replace the subframe part that goes across my car and holds the two lower control arms because i think that is bent on the passengers side..and the inner and outer tie rods..lower ball joints and upper control arm and see if that doesnt fix it...I think the popping noise is the radius rod from where its not where it should be..because I can move it a little bit i guess from where the hub sits so far back..I love this car but damn..it also leaks oil..i think its from the rear main seal...also I need to replace the brake master cylinder and get new rear rotors and brake pads cuz i dont have much brake pressure and it shakes violently when stopping...I hate it lol..but shes a beaut..ive put a lot of work into her!

no the problem isnt gone..the axle just doenst pop out anymore...it still makes the clanks and crap on the right side its just not the axle..I cant figure out what it is..I think it could possibly be the radius bar that connects to the frame cuz it seems loose but its as tight as i can get it..im not sure..any suggestions?...it does it when i hit the brakes and let off or if i let off the gas..and tap the gas

is your radius rod missing some of its bushings or anything? chceck all your bolts on your suspension, including the sub frame and cross member.

if it is it will be very noisey. you can even bounce the car up and down by hand and hear feint squeaking. i had the same problem before. i have no idea where it went, i blame it on the alignment shop, since they were the onyl ones who could have done it.

I'm assuming that car was in an accident at some point. one of the things that could be messed up, that would not be immediately obvious, is if they replaced the upper A arm with the one from the wrong side. that would angle the steering knuckle incorrectly and could cause the wheel to sit in the wheelwell wrong

the way you describe the clanking noise suggests a bad motor mount

im pretty sure the clanking noise is the radius rod cuz it moves and im guessing when i hit the brakes or let of the brakes the wheel is able to move back and forth causing the radius rod to clank against some metal..because when I have the wheel off i can move it back and forth and it makes the same clanking noise..so im pretty sure its not a bad motor mount..and yes the car has been in a wreck im sure of it..it didnt show up on carfax when i bought it but if you look on the passengers side fender it has a different sticker than the other..its not a honda sticker or anything and it looked new than the other before i painted it..you may be right about the control arm..ill check it out..thanks

Check the motor mounts. It sounds like excessive play. As for the wheel/suspension, before you go and dump a whole lot of money into change parts that may be fine, get an alignment. It sounds like the caster is off, possibly due to collision or curb bumping. You may just need a lower control arm, or it could even be a bent/kinked subframe.

i already replaced the lower control arm and it did help quite a bit...but the wheel is still set back quite a bit..the clanking noise im almost positive is the radius rod..but who knows...and yes i agree with you i definently think the subframe has been bent a little bit just from looking at it..but i dont know that for sure..if so do you know how difficult it is to take off..i noticed quite a few bolts and a few other things id have to remove to get it off..any ideas?
