92 si hb funky tach
my 92 si tach some times starts to jump around, then the car starts to miss fire. the motor is always making a low pich rubing sound than gets louder when the tach goes nuts. any ideas or has this happend to any one else? I think that it maybe the distributor. but not sure i bought the car yesterday and drove it 200 miles home the problem started 134 miles into my trip so i'm new to this car. saving up for a swap and need the car for a few months. late
Yeah this happened to my brothers 88 civic hatch that we bought for $100 it would do like the same thing that you are explaing, like the car would feel like its got massive torque cause its so jerky and you couldn't really rev it past 3k. So we picked up a used distributor for nothing and fixed the problem. SO yeah get urself a new one
ok i replaced the distributer. the the tach is still jumping and the car is missing(alot when wot) any one have an idea what would make this happen? there is no engine code or check engine light. please help thanks

what no one has any idea of what the problem is? ok i'll ask a ?
would or could a knock sensor retart timing and make the car miss fire and the tack to jump around?
what other sensors are working with timing the could cause this problem?
please help me

yes a knock sensor could however you would immediately get a check engine light #23 for the knock sensor. sounds like the ignitor or a bad ground to me. any local auto electric shop can diagnos this sort of problem for about 30-45$)

My 97 GS-R did the exact same thing. Tachometer was jumping all over the place accompanied by a bad misfire (especially awful under boost). Turned out to be the ignitor.

check the ground on the thermostat it is a 10mm headed bolt that ground the main engine harness at the thermostat but i still say its the ignitor. ...............................................Imp ort B's....lol ha ha
