Default Anyone running Hondata or familiar with it?? I have a few questions

Ive pretty much decided that I want to go with a Hondata management system once I get ahold of all my parts and have them installed. Im pretty sure there is a tuner not too far from here, so I plan to take it there once everything is installed. However, Im not sure what stage to get or what other pieces are needed for it to work in the R.

Its gonna be an all motor setup, so I dont need any of the boost or nos compatibility. I know that the stock ECU is OBD2 and needs to have an adapter to work with the Hondata system. However, I also heard that it might require a P28 or SOHC OBD1 computer as well. Can anyone elaborate on that some, if thats true? Also, does the Hondata actually replace the stock ECU, or does it just connect to the ECU for tuning purposes?

I would like to probably run the stage 4 setup, so that I can have the datalogging and Eprom chip burning functionality. But I dont really know if thats necessary. I have a general idea of how it works and what you can do with it just from reading their homepage, but a lot of that starts to get confusing and Im not sure exactly what I need to do to get the system and actually be able to tune with it. Any information is appreciated.

Bueller...Bueller....

Im sure this is one of the hated topics that get posted repeatedly, but Im not just asking general questions about it. Its pretty much R specific questions. I know someone knows something and can help me out.

Ok man, check it.

YOu need an OBD1 ECU.

P72
P28
P30

and then, you use that ecu, for the Hondata to plug into through a socket I put there, it is 4 pins.

Then, all you need is a stage 2.

And for me to wideband tune it on the dyno. Your done in 2-3 hours, and getting better gas mileage probably. With way more power.

I do 1 a day on average, sometimes 3.

If you have any questions, you may consult me.,

Thanks for the help man. What happens with the stock ECU? Does the OBD1 ECU piggy back it? or is the OBD1 ECU only used during tuning?

its not piggy backed perse./

You ROM tune the ACTUAL Honda ECu for that exact motor.

And you do it from 4 pins I install on the actual circuit board.

You getting the idea?

I think im getting the idea...I think its something I would just have to see done to understand.

I thought that you needed stage 4 to save the changes made to a new chip, guess not. But no matter what stage though, I have to get an OBD1 ECU for it to work, and you recommend using a stage 2 which should be sufficient enough? Stage 2 has VTEC controller right? So I wouldnt have to worry about a VAFC controller. Thanks.

Thats Hondata.

For an ITR, get a P28. Readily available and works fine.

P28 = 92-95 OBD-1 Civic Si/Ex
P30 = 92-00 OBD-1 DelSol DOHC Vtec Si/EG SiR
P72 = 94-95 OBD-1 Integra GSR

I have a JDM P72 if you need an ECU.

P28 has no knock sensor. I'd use the P30.

yeah, but the Honda ECU ignores it above 4000rpm from what I hear...a good program should not have any knock...I have a P28 based hondata on my car, but then again I'm also running a J&S Safeguard.

Tried a P28 and a P72, for some reason I can get the car to idle better with the p72.. May just be the p28 I tried though..
