hey all, i've got an 89 dx-mpfi crx on its second failed fuel pump. i replaced the oem fuel pump about two weeks ago and put in a walbro 255... when i first did the swap it worked great, pump was priming and i was getting fuel.

i worked on the car yesterday and it started up fine and worked well but when i went to look at it today the fuel pump would no prime at all! it was behaving exactly like the oem pump did... no response at all, even when i jumpered the wires bypassing the main relay on the relay harness(like the helms says...). i also ran direct power to test it and all i hear is a faint click. its not running at all...

could this be a bad ground at the pump? what can i look for? this is the same behavior i had with the oem pump originally.

what could be wrong here? i would rather not have to drop the tank again but if its necessary i will.

i just called about warranty and they said that most failures occur because of trash in tank but i'm pretty sure thats not the case here. i cleaned it out when i replaced it. could it be that it needs more fuel in there? about 1/4 tank is what i have sitting in it right now...

would more fuel help? the thing just clicks, its not priming...

 

u got to replace the tank too--the gunk @ the bottom is the prob.

 

i cleaned it out but i guess it wouldnt hurt, i know they're not that expensive like 100$ for a new tank... i'm going to look it up.

 

an update for those actually using search. I took the walbro out and hooked power up to it and it wouldnt come on at all... after shining a flashlight in the tank it was horrible. if you've got a junk tank try and get it replaced or it will only be a matter of time before it happens again... 125$ from autozone and arrives in 3 days.
