97 Civic EX w/ 170,000 miles. The car was given to my girlfriend and it ran fine when I gave it to her, but now she complains it doesn't work. She said there was a ratling noise under the car. So I checked it out and it appear to be the shift linkage was loose on the shifter. Is this common? Now she complains that no matter what gear she is in the car boggs upon hitting the gas. Why? Also, the maintainence light is now RED.

 

stick your key in the maintinance slot right next to the light on the cluster. change your oil and give it a tune up...

 

170,000 in a 97 ????? woah

 

I know it is alot of miles, but it is a Honda.

 

could be the fact that you purchased a honda.
