'97 Civic emission problem.....HELP
Well I was coming home last night, and I was coming off the exit ramp in Alexandria, so I slowed down to enter the turn and the car engine break and the speed dropped down to about 35. And this @$$hole behind me was tailgating me so I stepped on the gas a little bit, but instead of accelerating the engine revved really high, and it took the car awhile to shift up. And once the car shifted the check engine light came on. I just started having this problem for the past month or so, everytime I take this car around a turn or try to step on the gas it seems like the tranny is confused, it can't decide whether to shift up or down.
This is the first time I've own an automatic honda and the car has about 147,XXX miles on it and my question is, is this a common problem for hondas or the tranny in my car is just F***d up. I searched around and some people said that it's a problem from the factory, they said that I can take it back to honda before it reaches 150,XXX miles and they're going to replace the catalyc converter and oxygen sensor for FREE, idk if it's BS or not.
All comments and suggestions are welcome.

Immediately take your Civic to the Honda dealer as it is likely covered by the 150K mile extended emissions warranty. This warranty also covers certain problems with the automatic transmission, if indicated by a CEL code. All CEL code service will be free.

i would check the plug going into the tranny sometimes those pop out and your ecu no longer controls when its going to shift so it shifts as it goes.
if everything's hooked up right check the fluid is it black? cuz it should be straight red even on a high mileage car. if everythings hooked up and your fluid is still red i would start to think its the tranny. auto tranny's dont take abuse well and when they go they go.
