Hello, I had a quick question that I couldn't find an answer to using the search function. That question is, can I do a motor swap without pulling the transmission. I would really prefer to leave my gsr transmission installed when i put in a b18b. Thanks

 

that would be a challenge.

WAY easier to pull the hole thing.

 

ive seen others say you can....but i seriously doubt it.
Just leave the engine and tranny together, undo the connections and mounts, drop from the bottom, separate the tranny

Honestly it will be harder if you try it with the tranny installed.

Put motor together with transmission outside of car.

Use engine hoist to hoist the car up into the air, thats right, I said car!

With a pallet of wood or a skateboard, a heavy blanket, something, drag the motor under the car and then lower the engine hoist and bolt in motor mounts.

 

you dont need to hoist the car...most people dont own one

you can get the height by jacking the car up at the front side points

 

thanks, I wasn't going to. Good old jack stands and a cherry picker do my trick just fine.

I also found that an engine lift / hoist / cherry picker / whatever arent that expensive. I got mine for about $150 from Auto Zone or something equal to that.

Although they do take up a good bit of space, especially if you live in an apartment or small area.

 

Thanks killektiv, I live out in the sticks so space isn't an issue.

 

yea itd be way to hard and time consuming...
