Default police impound motor question

im looking into buying a motor from the police evidence area (impound) which was stolen. ive spoken to the original owner of the motor and he wants to get rid of it. the engine and paper work will be release under my name with a bill of sale. who ever had stolen the engine snap off and grinded the rivets off the transmission. my question is that Can i take the engine to get it stamp or have it register under my vehicle or name? im just afraid because of the tranny.
