What's stopping the front heims joints from moving side to side?

There are 2 snap rings, 1 on each side, they cannot move.

aren't you supposed to include an arm that locates the axle laterally as well?

The shocks will do that. It shouldn't be a problem just going straight.

The shocks won t help one bit laterally but the axle is square and the diagonal tubes will prevent the axle from swaying.

What exactly do you mean by laterally? MS Paint anyone? lol

bears, does it use stock hubs and wheel bearings? Or are those custom?

If I am understanding the picture correctly, it looks like the actual pivot "mounts" are pressed into the rod end and can't move laterally (side to side). I think what he was referring to is there isn't any panhard bar. Usually if you are just using trailing arms with no panhard lateral location bar you mount the trailing arms at a diagonal from the body to the axle--this forms a triangle and will effectively prevent lateral movement. The shocks don't add one iota of location--all they do is damp. It looks like the only thing preventing side to side movement is the press fit between the mounting pivots and the rod ends. I would add some sort of panhard bar or cross bar.

I see that they aren't pressed in and are actually held in by snap rings. I would still look into adding a panhard bar. If those snap rings broke when you had to correct going down the track the car would get very squirrely as the axle would be able to move 2"-3" before the rod ends slid and hit the mounting bolts.

This is how I did one. Used angle iron and spacers to capture the bearing.

edit: Uses the same 2 bolts as in bearsek's piece and a long bolt through the bearing and spacers. None of which were drawn.

Yeah, I didn't really feel that I needed to explain the words "locate it laterally" to a fabricator, but the post above explained what I meant. "Laterally" meaning "side to side" meaning you need something (panhard bar or whatever) to keep the whole axle in place...

I guess we will see how she works, im not really worried about swaying, when it was bolted in the car it seemed very solid.
