Vtec activated at 3.5rpms, Can it hurt anything?
Vtec activated at 3.5rpms, Can it hurt anything? Cause i have a rpm activated switch for vtec and right now thats the only pill i have for the switch? and i want to know if its safe to run it that low right now
I dont think so?! I have my VAFC sometimes set to engage vtec at 3800 on my gsr. The check engine light turns on, but the honda mechanics say it doesnt mean anything bad.
I've heard that you're not supposed to activate VTEC lower than 4k because it causes some problems with oil starvation or something.
Activating VTEC at an rpm below 3500 is not a good idea. 1st off you will actually lose low end power and the oil pressure is not high enough to fully lock the rocker arms into vtec position. if you are using an activation box you can change the setiing on the box from 4cyl to 6 cyl and the vtec will activate at 5000rpms, if you have a 3000 rpm pill then it will activate at 4500rpms on the 6cyl setting
Oh hell yeah, My rpm pill is actually 3.4k, so if i put it at 6cyl what will that be at

Oh you the man!!! I've got the Autometer shift module that came with a crappy 3000 pill and was saving up for the 5000 to 6000 set but I didn't even think of changing the setting to 6 cyl. YOU THE MAN, THANX.
i hope our friend here didn't pay a shop for a B16 swap. sounds like they may have pulled the old ZC switcheroo. haha

Yeah you shouldnt have your vtec turn on so soon, you will run out of vtec fluid, and that cost a pretty penny. =x hahha.....^5 *********.
Honda engineered it to come on at 5400 RPM for a reason. To high and you waste time and hard cam switch over. too low and you dont have oil press and it makes your car bog.
Think of it why wouldnt they just put it lower and have better HP curves

Ok, my friend is a certified Honda-Tech at one of the local dealers here, and here's what he told me. Your vtech kicking in that low won't mechanically hurt your engine. It will hurt your low end performance though. The reason they make vtech controllers is mainly for forced induction. Having a lower vtech setting on a turbo or supercharged car will give you more power and a smother power band because the turbo is spooling under vtech.
WELL I AM ALSO A HONDA TECH and vtec at too low of an rpm robs the bottom end of oil because there is not enough oil pressure untill above 4000 rpms. the forced induction bit is true. as for the guy that has the 3.4 rpm pill your vtec will activate at 5100rpms. http://www.hookupsimporttek.com
