Default adjustable cam gear

i have to do my timing belt soon, and i was wonder if i'd gain anything from getting an adjustable cam gear? my car is stock aside from a SRI, so i don't know if i'd gain anything.
and if i do, does it matter the brand i get, i don't want the gear to break or anything

With a stock camshaft I don't think you'll gain much if anything.

maybe a slight gain, all depends on how far you degree your cam. Could make it run a lot better, or like complete ****.

if you lack the resources and knowledge to tune them then no, they will not do anything for you. if your willing to pay for dyno time and possibly someone to tune them if u dont know how then maybe yes you'll gains something.

I had a thread going about cam gears the in all motor forum, check it out https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1884194
Also,
http://www.bisimoto.com
The one that the guy in that thread has for sale looks to be top-of-the-line stuff.
Level 1: street duty, excellent idle quality

Level 2: street/strip duty, mild idle lope, good for strokers

Level 3: race duty, aggressive idle lope

Level X: Pro series, full race profiles, use EMS or carburators only.

Level 1 and 2 grinds are both $220 with a core exchange, and the cam gear he has for sale is $160. If you want to also replace your valve springs and retainers it'll be quite a bit more. I know some guy on here had an AEM adjustable cam gear for like $90.

If you're interested in getting a re-grind, I have a spare cam that I can give you dirt cheap. And as far as price for power gains, if you want to stick with the engine you have then it's about one of the only things you can do to juice more power out of it. You could also consider port/polish intake manifold, headers, exhaust. I know some guy on here swapped a H23 intake manifold onto his F22b2, sounded pretty straightforward.

hm.

i looked on there site but im sure if it'd work for me.

i don't have anything else done to the engine, but i guess i could get a level one regrind and an adjustable gear. But how much of a power gain would i be looking at?

Well here it is:

Bisimoto (9:20 AM 2/27/2007): Thanks for your IM. The level 1 gives 10% more power, and the cam gear allows him to move the powerband around...advance for more bottom end, and retard for more top end. I hope that helps!

(this is me now)
So I assume that figure is based on stock (140) hp so that would bump you up to 154 plus whatever the SRI is giving you, so you would probably be running just around 160 hp...go whoop up on a stock vtec

Shouldn't be too hard if you keep all the pieces of the head in order. I'd say you could get it done in an afternoon easily. Be sure and do a valve adjustment if you do change out the cam. I'll put up some more on changing out the cam later tonight, I have class in like five minutes.

Well I looked more into removing and replacing the cam and it seems pretty straightforward. I actually have a spare SOHC head sitting around. I might just build that up with the cam and everything this summer and then install it. If you do decide to do the cam and adjustable gear before then let me know and I'll do a little DIY writeup and take some pics of removal and installation on that spare head.

depends on how u drive ur car.....track? street, occasional track mostly street.....

for street use u might feel a bit of gain in low/mid department, from messing with stock cam, but that would also mean u'de suffer in top end....But if street driven, light to light and no top speed u'll feel more power at the high HP expence if u advancae a bit, but dont do it too much or detonation might blow ur motor, plus premium gas+tune is a must...

with an aftermarket cam, u need to decide if you going to be doing mostly street driving and goo with mild/street grind, get fuel management and cam gear to tune it all once on dyno...do it right or ull be like me on third motor and only 74000 original miles

well i don't want a track car. I want it for street only, DD and pleasure. So no i don't expect to be running 13's or anything.

and i'm planning to do this whenever i can get the parts and the info that i need. But im also thinking now of maybe swaping the EX head onto my car for vtec.

That will require an ECU swap too, just so you know.

Mostly because there's no good reason to go 140 mph....at least on public roadways there isn't. Granted, I may do it if I had the ability to....but that inculdes having all the right saftey features, starting with racing harnesses and a full roll cage. But just be sure as hell that everything is working and in great condition, and that you have tires rated to go that fast. Because if something minor breaks when you're going twice the normal highway speed, you're probably going to die. It's simply not worth it.

I don't really know, throw me an offer. It's probably going to be $10-$15 to ship it.

Maybe a few mpg...2-4? I wouldn't think any more than that. It depends a lot on your driving style. If you're going to be shifting at redline and going 140 everywhere then it's not going to be so great anyways, so I wouldn't worry about that aspect of it. What do you currently get for gas mileage?
