Default ATTN: stereo pros..need to pic your brain again

again i come to you for help because i know you know your stuff and i very much appriciate your knowledge.

vehicle: 98 Jetta
OE stereo: stock premium Bose with from what i can see 8 speakers with a changer in trunk.

Here is what we are wanting to do. Simple stereo transplant of a sub+amp. Leaving headunit and changer and stock speakers because they sound pretty darn decent but mainly due to what it would take if he wanted to swap them all out.

What is the best way to go about tapping speaker level inputs for the amp? The amp is mounted up on the rear deck in the truck right beside the factory amp and the changer. Should i tap speaker wires pre amplification, or post? Also, in the rear The set up is a component set with a midrange and a tweeter. From what i can see in the car thats the only amp..the one in the rear near the changer and the newly mounted aftermarket amp for the sub.

What would be the best location to tap the speaker wires to get the signal for the amp......pre or post amplicication? Best way to hide it so that dealer cant see it if he ever blows a stock speaker and needs a change????

Thanks pros

You are looking at the stock monsoon system. I performed the same install in a late model (~2000) Passat and it was relatively simple.

You definitely want to go post amplification. I used tap splices...I know that they are not the best, so if you are handy with a soldering iron, use that to splice the outputs on the rear midbasses - don't use the tweeters, as they are actively crossed over.

Run these wires to a line level converter. I used the VEN2 from Peripheral...I've used a few, and they work great. Then run the power wire down the driver's side, grab a short ground to the chassis, and you can tap a wire from the CD changer for the amp remote.

This has been covered farily heavily over at VWvortex.com

I built a secondary amp rack that mounted the new amp next to the stock one, then just ploped the new box/sub combo in the trunk.

Sorry I can't help you with the proper wire color codes, but some searching at vortex should get you going.
