ok here are the facts:
the car i am working on is a 96 Prelude with the OBD2 h23a1 in it.
the motor that my customer gave me to put in came from canada and is a OBD1 h23a3.
i changed over the intake, distributer, and put a new OBD2 oil pump on it. (for the crank sensor)
when i went to start it up it doesnt get any fire. i checked, checked, and rechecked all of my plug ins, they are all good. i tested the coil and it is good, but still no fire.
the distributer will send one single spark when i first try to start it, but the fire goes dead after the first small spark every time.
another issue with this car in particular is that is was a flood vehicle that was purchased from the auction, i never got to hear the car run pior to them dropping it off at my shop, but they say that they had it running before they threw a rod.
i kno this is a long post, but it is a big problem as it has been in my shop way too long and i need to get it out.
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

have you checked the ignitor? a buddy of mine had a similar problem changed it and it fixed it. i have no idea where it is in a lude his was a civic. also have you tried a different distributor other than the one you swapped over?

all of my grounds look good.
will the crank sensor cause it not to fire if there is something wrong with it?
also when i turned on the key i didnt notice any service engine light.

ignitor
it's in the distributor....and since you changed that, you should probably check it out

I recently swapped an obd 1 h22 in to a 96 si and completely missed the sensors in the oil pump. I couldn't get a spark to save my life untill I ran those four wires op to the dizzy that came with the motor.
When you swapped out the oil pump for the one with the sensors did you change the sprocket too? The obd 2 sensor has a bunch of marks on it that the sensor reads. While the two sprockets are the same size they look very different.
edit: sprocket has a "c" in the middle

hello i am having a similar problem only i cought it before i dropped the engine in. i have a 96 prelude vtec and for what ever reason my engine decided to grenade on me and now is just a really heavy paper weight. i got a jdm h22a to replace it and noticed that there is no crank sensors on the oil pump like the stock h22a1 had. i have read something about taking the wires from the crank sensor and runnung them to the jdm dizzy. does anyone know where they pin to on the jdm dizzy cuz the info i have found is verry vague. thanks

Its magnetic pickup, halleffect uses little windows and displays a DC digital signal. Magnetic pickup sends an AC analog signal.
