Why is my CLOCK dim? What is wrong with my clock HELP!!!!! WIRING PEOPLE!
Well I could use a little help out. I know I have posted this a few times but I have never really got a answer that I could work with. Heres teh deal I have a 95 cx and tehy didn't come factory with clocks so I purchased one. I'm not sure if I tried it when i bought it but I might have and i think it was bright and normal looking, But I'm not sure if I tried it or not. Yet I now have two clocks becasue I though it was a faulty clock but the same happened with the second I got and i tried both of them in my buddys car and they worked great., What happened you ask?? Well when i plug it in and turn my car on the digital display of the clock is very dim and even dimmer on the right hand side of the display(and the dimmer switch is all the way up). Then when I turn my lights on is is suppose to get dim liek everything else but instead it basically disappears, and is hardley seen. But when i press the flip down thing of the clock and it hits the reset button the clocks lights up, bright as it should be. But i tried to hold the reset button down
casue it was so bright and yeah it doesn't work that way.
**My brother said someting about a bad ground or sumthing???
** Is there anyway I can like hard wire my clock to be as bright as when you press the reset button???
Somebody please help me so that i can put my car back together

I haven't messed with one, but for what it's worth, mine doesn't follow the dimmer control. It is bright until the running or headlights are turned on, then it dims to a fixed level. Anyway, it needs a source of constant 12 volts for the memory, 12 volts when the ignition is turned on so it lights up, and a feed from the light switch so it dims when they get turned on, and of course a ground. Since you've tried two clocks with the same results, I would suspect you've got some wires switched around or missing one.

The clocks are fine its sumthing with the wiring

I can't be sure since I don't know how you wired it, but I've seen it happen before on a 95 EX that belongs to a coworker. We were putting in an in dash CD player and we blew a fuse under the hood. Besides the radio not working, the only other problem was the clock was dim. I can't remember how that fuse is labeled in the fuse box in front of the battery, just check the obvious ones and see if they're blown.

i ahve it wired to the factory plug
taht was connected to just the block plate when i bought my car which is just like every otehr 92-95 civic that didn't come with a clock, SO i didn't do any wiring........all i did was plug it in.

i had this problem in my girl's 95ex. not only was it dim as heck it also would not light up when you press the illumination button while the cars off but it turned out it was the 7.5amp backup light fuse in the fuse box under the hood. Who woulda thought? it was crazy.
yeah its in the fuse box closest to the windshield on the passenger side under the hood. Its labeled backup but i dont know what that means and in her car it was a 7.5 fuse.
it was blown so when i replaced it the clock was bright again and it came on when the car was off and i press the button. if you think about it, having the wrong fuse in there isnt going to make it stop working. I checked and it is supposed to be a 7.5
Well, i checked the fuses under the hood and none of them were blown. Though, would if the size of the fuse is different then what it is suppose to be? What should the number on the fuse for the back-up fuse read??
Any other help?

Its a blown fuse on the clock/radio circuit. I'm certain of this becuase i have had the same problem.

If the display is "dim" and even "dimmer" on one side, it is only logical that it is a problem with the clock itself and not it's power source.
I didn't wire anything
I plugged it into the factory plug that was previously connected the the clock block off plate
Clock is good cause I have 3 now because I thought it was that problem, and they all do the same thing.

i blew a channel in my old head unit and along with it my clock and radio memory are gone (i.e. have to reset sations and time everytime the car gets turned on). how can i diagnose where this problem is?
Its all good. Clock works awsome adn i finally put that guage benzel crap back in my car. The problem has been cured.THANKS everyone
what was the problem?
probably the clock fuse. For some reason most hondas dont have the radio hooked up to the radio fuse or at least that one just never blows when the radio stops working.

Guess what backup means. Its also the same fuse you pull to clear engine codes.
