car is making funny rattling sound just above idle...help!
ok i have a '91 integra LS with an automatic transmission and a b18a1.
yesterday i started hearing some kind of rattling noise coming from the engine area when the car is in drive or reverse, just above idle. it doesn't happen in neutral or park...only when the engine is under a load. the car vibrates a little at idle when there is a load on the engine which i know is pretty normal of a 4-cyllinder with almost 100k miles....but i can't figure out if the noise is possibly my transmission, or just something under the hood that's loose. i can only hear the rattle inside the car, when the windows are up and the doors are closed. and like i said it's most audible between 800-1100rpm's when the engine is under a load. the car has 98k miles and drives normally otherwise. possibilities that came to mind for me are either motor mounts, auto tranny slushbox startin to kick it, or something in the dash rattling. i don't think it's necessary to take it in to diagnose it unless it's possibly the start of a big problem since i plan on doing a swap within the next year anyway. any information is much appreciated...

nope stock exhaust. i do have an aem cold air intake but it's not that...it was the 1st thing i checked. i guess the heat shield thing is possible. its no big deal really cuz the car works fine i just hate funny noises if i don't know what they are ya know? hehe
if anyone has heard a similar sound on their car, let me know if u ever found it and what it is i'd appreciate it.

try putting it in gear with the hand brake on and your foot on the brake. raise the rpm's to the the level that the rattling is at. have someone move about outside the car to pinpoint the souirce of the noise. that's how I found a rattle in the muffler that would only come out when the the car was in gear and under load. good luck. let us know what it was.
just went through this with my car. was the exhaust manifold bolts that were loose and gave a shuddering rattle at about 2200rpm especially when letting off the throttle after blipping it.
