Default H23 Vtec questions

Alright well im doing an H23vtec in my DA integra. already has an H22 in it but one of the thrust bearings blew out. So i wanted to know some questions first off.

From people who actually have an H23vtec, whats the probability of longvity?.
I hear mixed opinions about it. I am going to be using the JDM H22A pistons (not the type s). And I also need to know, rod ratio, piston measurement in cubic inches, deck height, bore and stroke in cubic inches. I have searched but i find people naming of one number then another so I want numbers from somebody that is sure!!!

And I have searched people and some answers I cant find. Thanks for the info.

the h23 is similar to the h22.. deck height is the same as the h22.. dont know about how hard it is to swap the head.. the rod ratio is 1.49 and the stroke is 95mm bore is 87mm. you wont be able to rev the **** out of it due to the poor rod ratio.. throw some rod bolts in it and id say good for like 7500-8000 rpm.. not on a daily basis tho.. ocassional visits

thanks for the info man. and another thing i forgot to add on here, now for the h22 i know the rod bearing bolts are 9mm so since ARP doesnt make the H22 ones have to order GSR 9mm bolts, now for the H23 is it 8mm or 9mm???. oh yea defeantly dont want to be taking it above that anyways.

im pretty sure that arp makes rod bolts for the h22.. ive heard that the gsr ones will work and ive heard that they dont. so i dont really know for sure.. i would just call arp and ask someone good luck with the build

Head goes right on, done it makes some decent power, but I used the H23 pistons, wanted to see what power would be with h22 pistons, they will drop right in, no problems, you do need to remove the oil plug in the block to allow oil flow to the head, also head studs are a good thing. I spun mine to 8000 on regular basis. held up really good. I would recommend if you are already dropping pistons in, do the full rebiuld of the bottom end, bearings and what not, that's why this swap got a bad name, too many kids were just dropping the head on onto a already problematic, poorly maintained bottom end.

i agree 100% with the new bearings.. def oem tho. that way you can get the correct numbr rod bearings and correct letter main bearings

thats pretty much why any hybrid swap is given a bad name good point man!...nobody pays attention to details and bothers to properly rebuild their bottom ends right the reliability is all in the block...

You realize that changing the H23vtec's pistons to "JDM" H22 ones does absolutely nothing? Just swap the damn motor in.

How does bumping up the compression a notch not do anything?? I'm not being sarcastic, aren't the H23's pistons lower comp then the H22's or H22 type S? That's what I read, I mean I wouldn't imagine a Huge increase, but if your already rebiulding than nothing wrong with a couple extra ponies.

Last I checked the H23 Vtec's compression was the same as the H22. And he said he wasn't putting in Type-S pistons which would increase the compression so I ask - whats the point of replacing the pistons if they're similar.

Only the Type-S and Type-R pistons are 11.1 and the rest are 10.5/10.6 so .1 bump in compression is really not worth it.

h23 alone has lower compression the any h22 longblock, when you add the h22 head on the h23 shortblock you lose even more compression because the h22 head las a larger combustion chamer 53.8cc's vs the 50cc h23 combustion chamber...h23vtec with stock compression will yield about 9.31:1 compression

h22 and h23 pistons have different compression heights, meaning that h22 piston on h23 crank/rods will stick out the block making crazy high compression numbers

stock h23 pisonts:9.31:1
h22a4 pistons: 10.91:1
h22a pistons: 10.65:1
type s pistons 12.2:1

That's pretty close to what I found out, I do plan on buying a used H23 long block in the future and dropping this in my hatch as well, I always liked how it pulled, and not at all hard to do. I know theres better ways to do things but I've always been fond of this hybrid. I mean, you can pretty much have a stock motor with oem components H22 Head, H23 block, and some type s pistons, and make some decent power. My H23/vtec with the H23 pistons made 187 whp sae thats not too bad, wonder what it would make with type s pistons.

I know this. I thought the OP was talking about the actual H23A Vtec engine, not the hybrid motor.
