Default Metallic squeaking noise in head

Well I bought a 95 lx four door this weeked for $150. The kid I bought it from said it threw a rod, but he's an idiot because the car starts and runs...rough. I was thinking spun bearing, but upon closer inspection, the noise sounds like it's coming from the head. I took off the valve cover and poured oil all over the valvetrain, and the noise dissapeared. However, when the motor heated up and the oil dissapated, the queaking came back. I revved the motor and it just died on me. It starts, but it when it returns from a rev higher than idle, it dies. The kid had smashed the pan, bt he said it was towed home and it has a plate on it. He also said the pan now holds 5 quarts. Also, he blew a headgasket last year, and while the head was off, he and his dad rebuilt it. I have afew theories:

1. The plate on the pan makes a dip around the oil pickup and the oil is not circulating to the head.

2. He messed up the head when he rebuilt it.

3. The headgasket is on upside down and is restricting flow somehow.

4. The motor is ****ed. Spun bearing etc...

Someone help me out, if the snow isn't too bad later I'll get a sound clip.

WOW, for a $150, that's not bad. sounds like you have your work cut out though. IMO, would start with the eaier or cheaper idea first. try replacing the pan and look at the oil pick up, then work from there.

or you can also just pick up another engine for about $400 and swap it out. now you have a running car for $550, which still pretty good. especially for a daily driver.

You're easiest solution would be throwing that questionable engine into a trash can and putting in a replacement for a couple hundred bucks.

BTW, the title of your thread is one of the best I've ever seen on H-T.

I can get a b7 for $20 for it, but I have a deadline 2 weeks from friday to get the car in driving shape because its for my stepsister..shes suing for full custody of her child and needs a decent car by the court date. I HAD a spare 1.5 oil pan, but I sold it. I guess it was a sogn from god to keep when I got a speeding ticket going to sell it. I have a 1.5 bottom, but my last resort is to swap the car. I wanna check out the oan, pickup, and take the head off and see if the head is to spec. But so far everyone has told me check the pan and pickup. thanks

dude, even if you get the motor and swap it out, it'll only take a couple of hours.
especially if your stepsister needs a running car, that will be your cheapest and most reliable bet. for her any way.
