Burning Oil
I know a lot of people on here have had the same problem as me when it comes to their R's burning oil. I have searched and read just about everyone's experience when it comes to this topic. I thought I would share mine.
My R was burning about 1 quart every 1200 to 1500 miles. Although some may think this wasnt excessive i thought it was. I called Acura of Oakland, who get a big
from me, to schedule an appt to have a compression test done. I spoke to an "advisor" who told me that it is normal for my R to burn this amount of oil. The advisor asked me how many miles, manual or automatic, what year my car was and what kind of car I had. I told them and they told me it was due to me "over revving" and shifting past 4500 rpms too much. I asked the advisor how they can assess that over the phone and they said that with the info they gave me a room full of advisors all agreed.
I wasn't satisfied with that answer. Just like all of you I baby my car, so I contacted a fellow H-T memeber by the sn type-r #945, who helped me out tremendously, since he works at an acura dealership.
Thanks again
With his advise I took it to another Acura dealer. They called me today and told me that the diagnostic shows that my compression of each cylinder is completely off. They said that I have leaks from 10 to 30% on each cylinder. Since they just called me today I dont have all the exact readings but they also told me that they have noticed vertical scrathces on the cylinder walls and that there is burnt oil that has made its way to the short block. They will be replacing the short block as well as conducting a valve job and with that they will replace the rings, pistons, valve stem seals, etc. They also mentioned replacing the intake manifold as well as the exhaust manifold.
Thats all the info I have right now but my warranty will cover all of this. I am supposed to get a call tomorrow to get an update on the situation.
I just wanted to share my experience with all of you because I know a lot of our R's burn oil. I was brushed off by Acura of Oakland and they told me that this was normal. If any of you have any doubts and still have your warranty please have your R's checked. I would have never thought that my engine burning oil would cause this much damage. My warranty was almost up and wanted to have this problem checked out. Looks like my warranty will pay off.
Cliff Notes:
Acura of Oakland
Burning Oil wasnt normal getting it fixed under warranty.

Good thing you have the warranty. Not sure why they would replace the block and rings and pistons. A complete short block would probably be cheaper. Since its their money you can't complain too much.

I am a tech for Acura and i had the same situation. Each case is different and has a lot to do w/ your attitude to them. Mine had the same vertical scratches and i did a shortblock and valvejob and mine is great now. Not all dealerships are bad, but there are a lot of shitbags out there.

yes i agree. i dont think all dealerships are bad but I just had a bad experience at Oakland. The dealer I have my car at right now is great. I'm sure Oakland treats their customers with the best service possible...too bad I didnt get to experience it.
